About the job

Are you passionate about working with young people from marginalized housing areas and helping them organize themselves into strong communities? And are you ready to join in when the coolest youth councils and youth communities create local activities, raise their voices and demand change? Then you are the one we need!

As an intern in the National Youth Program you will help coordinate our efforts in, among other places, Tingbjerg, Nordvest and Vestegnen. Here we support young people in organizing themselves into strong communities so they can collectively create change and better conditions for themselves and other young people. The project work is anchored in strong partnerships with, among others, housing-social holistic plans, local youth clubs, schools, etc.

As an intern you will support the youth communities and facilitate youth activities in one or more of the mentioned areas. You will be responsible for developing workshops and educational programs that create democratic spaces where young people can dream, create change and initiate activities – by youth, for youth. We work with themes such as inequality, anti-discrimination, political empowerment and diverse communities that make young people local actors and co-creators.

Join an engaged and motivated team

You will become part of the National Youth Program team, where you will receive professional input through peer sparring, professional days and development activities. The team consists of 8 employees – including a team leader, a program manager, a project manager and five coordinators.

With us you will be part of a dynamic and engaged team where collaboration and sparring are a natural part of everyday life. We place a high value on learning – as an intern you will have a supervisor who provides ongoing professional sparring, talks with you about well-being and helps you set and achieve your learning goals. You will have the opportunity to put your own mark on projects, but you are never alone – we work as a team.

As an intern we expect that you

  • You are passionate about working with young people and ensuring that young people have a voice and influence on their own lives.
  • You are willing to teach and/or facilitate processes with young people.
  • You are good at building relationships and ready to meet young people with curiosity and openness. A large part of our work is the informal relationships with the young people, where you might talk about the small and large life dilemmas.
  • You may have professional knowledge in democratic participation, local democracy, anti-discrimination or the challenges and opportunities for young people in marginalized areas.
  • You are motivated by working with volunteers.
  • You regularly take on administrative tasks and support internal coordination of tasks.
  • You are currently pursuing a relevant higher education (e.g. sociology, pedagogy, anthropology, political science, educational science or similar).

We offer you

  • An unpaid internship position of approximately 30 hours per week (we will agree details and align with study rules).
  • Five months of employment from mid-January to end of June (with flexibility).
  • Mutually flexible working hours. Since we work with young people and volunteers, we expect you to be flexible regarding evening and weekend hours. In return, we are also flexible so you can take courses and work alongside, as well as take days off.

At Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke we believe in diversity and equal opportunities for all. We therefore encourage everyone – regardless of gender, culture, ethnicity, religion and political background – to apply for this position, as we value a diverse workforce.
