About the job

Workplace: Kolding Libraries, Slotssøvejen 4, 6000 Kolding

Hours: The position is based on a full-time role for 6 months.

Start date: as of 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter

Would you like to help kickstart a close collaboration between Kolding Libraries and the municipality's day-care centers?

Do you have an eye for how read-aloud, singing and play create language enthusiasm in early childhood?

Then perhaps you are the one we are seeking for an exciting 6-month project.

What can we offer?

Kolding Libraries will partner with the day-care centers in Kolding Municipality to find a staff member for the project "Together on Children's Language and Well-Being".

We are seeking a project assistant who can bridge the library’s literary expertise and the pedagogical staff’s practice in a busy everyday life, and who would like to influence the culture around language and reading in children’s everyday life.

The aim of the project is to establish a lasting collaboration with the day-care institutions and to find out which storytelling approaches actually work in daily life. You will deliver concrete, tested activity packs and methods for the teachers’ everyday work, and collect the knowledge that will shape the library’s future offerings.

You will have great influence on the project’s form and content, and become part of an ambitious library that places high value on knowledge, co-creation and sustainable solutions. You will receive guidance from dedicated colleagues from Team Children and Families who work purposefully to create a desire for play, learning and literature. You will also gain access to a newly established collaboration network between the library and day-care services.

Functions

Your primary workplace will be out in Kolding Municipality’s day-care centers, based at Kolding Library. In close partnership with the pedagogical staff, you will develop, test and anchor new outreach programs.

Your tasks will include, among others

  • Be proactive in the classrooms with concrete activities such as read-aloud, storytelling, song suitcases, rhymes, chants and play.
  • Inspire an everyday culture where books become a natural, integrated part of children’s daily lives – also after the project ends.
  • Co-create with the pedagogues so that outreach approaches and materials are adapted and become realistic to use in a busy daily life.
  • Collect knowledge and experiences about the pedagogues’ frameworks and needs, so the library’s offerings match the institutions’ reality.
  • Translate experiences into concrete concepts, including activity packs and input for the library’s future material purchases and lending offerings.
  • Collaborate and be proactive in new and existing partnerships e.g. with teacher education programs.
  • Facilitate and plan professional development programs for both pedagogues and library staff.
  • Manage the project to ensure we reach the goal, and plan and prioritize your tasks according to what has the most value for the project.
  • Evaluation and knowledge sharing with the library’s regular staff group and our newly established collaboration network.

Qualifications

We imagine you have a relevant educational background in culture, dissemination or the pedagogical field (e.g., librarian, cultural mediator, pedagogue or similar) – but the most important is your enthusiasm and personal competences:

  • You have strong professional expertise in children’s literature, language stimulation and dissemination to 0-6-year-olds.
  • You are good at reading aloud, singing and using yourself in the delivery to children.
  • You have a sense for cultural change and understand how to motivate and move people.
  • You are outgoing, proactive and enjoy building relationships with new partners.
  • You meet the pedagogical staff at eye level and have respect for their work and busy everyday life.
  • You work in a structured way with project management tools, design processes and evaluation, and you can translate practical experiences into concepts that can live on.
  • You have a driving license for a passenger car
