About the job
Would you like to help build a brand-new forensic psychiatric inpatient ward, where professionalism, community and human relationships go hand in hand? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
In February 2027 we open R5 - a new forensic psychiatric inpatient ward. Therefore we are looking for engaged and professionally grounded social and healthcare assistants who want to become part of a strong interdisciplinary working community. You will get a special opportunity to be involved from the very beginning and to make your mark on a new ward – both on our professional approach, collaboration culture and the everyday life we will create together for patients and staff
A new ward – with room for your ideas
We believe that good forensic psychiatric treatment is created through strong relationships, high professionalism and close interdisciplinary collaboration. At R5 we want to create a treatment environment where patients are met with respect, curiosity and a fundamental belief that development is possible – even when life is characterized by serious mental illness and complex issues.
At the same time, we want a workplace where employees' different competencies are actively brought into play, and where we dare to be curious about our own practice. As a staff member at R5 you will not only be part of a new ward. You will be co-creating the culture that will characterize R5 in the future.
Your role as a social and health care assistant
As a social and health care assistant you will play a central role in the patients’ daily life, treatment and rehabilitation. You work closely with nurses, doctors, pedagogues and other professional groups to create cohesive, individualized patient pathways.
Your tasks will include, among others
- to build and maintain professional, trusting relationships with patients with complex psychiatric issues.
- to work purposefully with milieu therapy, recovery and rehabilitation.
- to observe and assess patients’ mental and physical condition and contribute to the overall treatment effort.
- to handle medication management within applicable competencies and frameworks.
- to work preventively with conflict de-escalation, safety and a safe treatment environment.
- to support patients’ mastery, independence and participation in meaningful activities.
- to contribute to professional documentation, reflection and quality development.
We view the social and health care assistant’s professional competence as an important and independent part of the interdisciplinary treatment. Your observations, clinical experience and your ability to build relationships are essential contributions to the patients’ overall treatment course.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone who is trained as a social and health care assistant, with an interest in psychiatric nursing and working with people with severe mental illness. You do not necessarily need experience from forensic psychiatry. The most important is that you come with professional curiosity, engagement and a desire to develop yourself.
We emphasize that you
- have an appreciative, respectful and professional approach to the patients.
- can stay calm and maintain overview in complex and sometimes unpredictable situations.
- see relationship work as a fundamental part of psychiatric treatment.
- thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and take responsibility for the shared working environment.
- are willing to contribute ideas and participate in the development of new workflows and professional initiatives.
- are reflective about your own practice and see feedback as a natural part of professional development.
We do not expect you to know everything from day one. We expect that you want to learn and contribute.
Working hours – continuity and coherence in patient care
The position is 37 hours per week or 32 hours depending on your preference, and entails mixed shifts, where we aim for two-shift operation with occasional night shifts. You will have the opportunity to influence your own schedule with consideration for operations and joint task solution. Weekend shifts are part of a fixed rotation every other weekend.
We see it as a professional strength that our staff have the opportunity to follow the patients’ development at different times of the day. This provides a more nuanced insight into the patients’ needs, strengthens continuity of treatment and supports interdisciplinary collaboration. At the same time we are aware that work life and private life must fit together. Therefore we want shift planning characterized by dialogue, transparency and as much consideration as possible for the individual employee within the framework of the shared task.
What can we offer?
At R5 you get a special opportunity to help shape a new workplace on a solid forensic psychiatric foundation. We want to create a ward where high professional quality and a good working environment go hand in hand.
We offer
- A structured onboarding process: We prioritize that you receive a safe and thorough introduction to the ward, our professional approach, workflows and safety Frameworks, so you have the best conditions to succeed in your new role.
- A mentor program : As a new employee you will be assigned a mentor who supports you in your professional development, helps you settle in and acts as a sparring partner in the first period. We believe that a good start lays the foundation for a good and long-lasting career.
- Influence from the beginning: You get the opportunity to contribute to the development of our professional culture, workflows and daily practice.
- A strong professional community: We want an environment characterized by sparring, knowledge sharing and mutual respect across disciplines.
- Present and inclusive leadership: We prioritize open dialogue, integrity and employees’ perspectives in the development of the ward.
- Professional development: We want to create a culture where reflection, learning and curiosity are a natural part of everyday life.
- Focus on well-being and safety: We work for a safe and professional treatment and working environment where we take care of both patients and each other.
- New physical premises: We will have access to facilities and outdoor areas that we want to actively involve in milieu-therapeutic treatment.
We believe that employees who experience professional meaning, influence and a strong collegial community have the best prerequisites for creating good patient pathways. A workplace we create together A new ward is not built by bricks, furniture or procedures alone. It is built by the people who come in each day with their professionalism, engagement and willingness to make a difference. We want to build an R5 where it is natural to ask questions, share knowledge, challenge habits and find new solutions together.
