About the job

We are seeking a specialist in internal medicine: geriatrics, to start on 1 April 2027 or by agreement.

The geriatric specialty is in constant development and has a central role in the new health reform. We therefore need another specialist, who together with the rest of the geriatric team will help to further develop the specialty so that we match the new framework for the health system.

Medical Department

The Medical Department handles the medical function for approximately 300,000 citizens in the six western municipalities in the Central Denmark Region. In addition to the main function in Gødstrup, the department has activities in the Health Centre in Holstebro.

The Medical Department expects to eventually be able to handle outbound functions in the municipalities, in health houses, in health and care centers, and in the citizen's own home.

In addition to geriatrics, the department covers the following specialties: hematology, rheumatology, pulmonology, infectious diseases, nephrology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology.

The department has 96 beds distributed across four inpatient wards with outpatient functions in all specialties. The Diagnostic Unit is an integrated part of the Clinic for Pulmonary and Infectious Diseases. We place a high value on close collaboration between the specialties and a strong professional environment for education and research.

The geriatric function

The function consists of a Ward for Elderly Diseases with space for 21 patients and the Clinic for Elderly Diseases. Patients are admitted via the Emergency Department.

Geriatrics is currently staffed with a chief physician and one additional consultant and 4 specialists.

In the Clinic for Elderly Diseases, we see patients referred from their GP for general assessment, fall assessment, and dementia assessment. Dementia assessment takes place at the joint dementia assessment unit at Regionshospitalet Gødstrup.

The staff is a dedicated team of nurses, social and health care assistants, medical secretaries, doctors, and therapists who are passionate about the geriatric specialty and for frail elderly patients. We work closely in multidisciplinary teams around the individual patient and have close collaboration with primary care. We value good collegiality and help each other when it is busy.

Specialist’s function

We are seeking a competent and ambitious colleague who is passionate about their field and who wishes to take responsibility. You will help to develop the department so that patients receive treatment of the highest professional standard that meets the patients' wishes and needs.

The specialist participates in operational tasks together with the other geriatric specialists in the inpatient ward and clinic. The specialist actively participates in development tasks and thus contributes to the ongoing development and quality of the specialty. The specialist actively contributes to the continuing education of the medical staff and other staff groups.

The position contemplates an independently organized professional area to meet the goals of the Health Reform 2024. Particular emphasis will be placed on increasingly more patient-centered treatment, and as the responsibility for treatment after hospital admission is extended, we also want to strengthen this area, among other things via digital solutions.

The specialist’s function will continuously need to be maintained and developed.

Please outline briefly in your application how you see the geriatric specialty contributing to the aims of the Health Reform 2024.

Your position will, in addition, be determined by agreement with the Chief Physician and the Head of Department based on the department's overall operational needs.

We expect

  • That you actively participate in the daily clinical guidance of younger colleagues.
  • That you regard yourself as a culture bearer and have a focus on psychological safety in collaborative relationships, contributing to a strong collegial community.
  • That you are a driving force for innovation and actively seek new collaborative constellations – multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral – when this improves patient pathways.
  • That you are loyal, decisive and responsible.
  • That you have strong communication skills both orally and in writing and maintain a good tone.
  • That you support the transformation process in the health system and actively work so that as many patients as possible receive treatment close to their own home.
  • That you have an interest in research and/or improvement work.
  • That you actively participate in development tasks that enhance the quality of assessment and treatment within the specialty.
  • That you volunteer your time when daily life is pressed.

We can offer you

  • A challenging and developing specialist position with a high degree of professional and personal autonomy.
  • A central role in the development of the geriatric specialty in close multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • A strong professional environment with a balanced approach to private life, continuing education, and production.
