Social- and Health Care Assistant Trainee – a meaningful education close to life

Social-og sundhedsassistentuddannelsen is an education that alternates between four school periods and three training periods in the municipality, psychiatry, and the close, integrated health care system (the municipality/hospital).

You must apply through this vacancy regardless of whether you are applying for a full education program or a shortened merit-based program.

The vocational education for social- and health care assistants has the overarching aim that the student, through school instruction and practical training, gains knowledge and skills within

• Professional, holistic nursing care
• Rehabilitation in collaboration with the citizen
• Interprofessional collaboration in the close, integrated health care system

A Social- and Health Care Assistant works, among other things, with the following tasks

• Citizen- and patient-oriented prevention, health promotion, and rehabilitation
• Handle medication dispensing and administration
• Complex treatment courses in the citizen's own home
• Nursing assessment and act on changes in the citizen's own home
• Cooperation, guidance and motivation through targeted communication with the citizen and relatives
• Coordination and teamwork around nursing and citizen pathways
• Document and relay professional information in writing and orally
• Principles of hygiene and interruption of transmission pathways

There is also the possibility to continue studying within the area, e.g., to become a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, or a nurse.

The theoretical part of the education takes place at

• Social- and Health School South in Aabenraa.

The practical part of the education takes place in

• The close health care system, where the internship takes place in Sønderborg Municipality in elderly housing/home care.
• The psychiatry where the internship takes place in the region or Sønderborg Municipality in social psychiatry/dementia/center for acquired brain injury.
• The integrated health care system, where you will intern at both a hospital and in Sønderborg Municipality.

Total duration of the education

The main program lasts 2 years and 9 months.

Application deadline

• December 2026.

Sønderborg Municipality expects to hold interviews in weeks 50-51.

We will obtain a criminal record check upon employment.

For orientation there is a smoke-free working environment in Sønderborg Municipality as of January 1, 2020.
