Support family for Family Foster Care in Skanderborg Municipality, Children and Youth

Skanderborg Municipality has several children who need a support family, so if you are approved by the supervisory authority as either a general or reinforced foster family, and you have the necessary time and capacity, we would like to hear from you. Are you approved as a support family for reinforced typology in the Social Supervisory system?

Do you have experience working with children with emotional and social challenges? Then you can make a difference for a sibling pair living in Skanderborg Municipality.

There is a need for a skilled support family who can take in a girl of 9 years and a boy of 10 years every third weekend from Friday after school until Monday morning, as well as two overnight stays on weekdays each week – up to 11 nights per month (if it is possible at your place).

The boy enjoys playing, likes cars and LEGO, his tablet, swimming and loves being outdoors on playgrounds and cycling. The boy needs close support in social relations, where he can be challenged and may have difficulty with emotional and physical regulation. He also needs support for his social and emotional development. He will thrive in 1-to-1 activities and would like to do things together – e.g., small practical projects.

The girl likes teddy bears, her iPad, swimming, roller skating, playing and she loves being outdoors on playgrounds and cycling. At school she has good girlfriends with whom she plays. The school describes that the girl can be very restless and needs help. For example, when she encounters challenges, she may seek to move away from them.

The children are outgoing and joyful and want to be together for activities and companionship, but also need time, security and support to form attachments with new adults. They are described as having good resources to benefit from support and to foster positive development.

Shared for the children is the need for calm and stable adults who can meet them where they are with openness and recognition, and who can meet them in a mentalizing and patient manner.

They have a caring relationship with each other and can take part in joint activities.

For the children's everyday life and schooling, it is important that you/your family do not live too far away from Skanderborg.

As a rule, one family is sought, but there is an option for the children to be divided into two families if you/you do not have two spaces available.

Being a support family is both rewarding and demanding. It requires patience, openness and capacity, while your family receives a lot in return and experiences the joy of making a large difference in a child’s life.

We are seeking a family who can give the children a calm weekend, where their wishes, activities and needs are in focus in relation to planning the children's stay.

In addition, you/you are requested to

• be approved as a support family
• offer calm, structure and predictability
• offer presence and care
• approach the child with a mentalizing and validating attitude
• possess patience and resilience
• be able to collaborate with the children's parents (the children live alternately with the parents)

The Foster Care Service offers you

• Close collaboration with the child and youth advisor and foster care consultant
• Individual supervision
• Supervision group for support families 4 times a year
• Intense supported start-up process with relevant training and subsequent follow-up supervision according to the child’s life situation and conditions
• 4 annual course days

Compensation

Compensation is set according to Skanderborg Municipality’s compensation model in accordance with KL’s tariffs, and the concrete compensation for each child is 7 allowances.

About the Secretariat for Children and Youth

In the Secretariat for Children & Youth we work with children, young people and families. We cover the entire 0-18 year old area – from the general areas with health services, day care, schools, after-school care/clubs to the special area with PPR and the social area with SSP and child social counseling.

Our task in Children and Youth is to support each family’s efforts to create a good childhood, where children and young people thrive and develop in safe surroundings.
