About the job

Do you want to lead a new team that will secure supply for the Danish Armed Forces, provide predictability for the drone industry, and foster top-class international collaboration? Then here is your opportunity to build a team from scratch – and to leave your mark on one of the areas in the Danish Armed Forces where development is moving fastest.

About us

In the FMI's Business Area UAS and Counter UAS we buy, implement, update and operate drones for the entire Armed Forces. We work closely with the Armed Forces’ users, industry and international partners in, among others, NORDEFCO, EDA and NATO. Development is rapid, and you will have the opportunity to influence one of the most significant technological transformations in Danish defense. It also means that our own organization evolves in step with both the technology and the size of our task portfolio.

Therefore we are now creating a team that will take care of cross-cutting coordination and cross-cutting tasks in the business area. The team will be responsible for our work with the Defense Drone Plan, coordination and case handling of our international collaborations in the drone area as well as further developing our internal IT support, including management information. In addition to you, the team will consist of three attorneys (full time equivalent) and an IT and communications officer, whom we are recruiting in parallel.

About the position

Since the team and the position are newly established, you have good opportunities to shape the content of the job and the way we approach the tasks. As team leader you report to the deputy commander of the business area, who has personnel responsibility for the whole team. This means you can concentrate your leadership on the tasks and collaboration: setting direction, prioritizing, following up and ensuring the quality of what the team delivers.

You will, among other things, be responsible for

  • leading the establishment of the team’s routines, workflows and task portfolio
  • being responsible for the daily coordination and quality assurance of the team’s task handling
  • establishing the team as a reference point in cross-cutting coordination – both internally in FMI and externally towards the Armed Forces units, industry and our international partners
  • ensuring progress and coherence in the business area’s work with the Defense Drone Plan and in our international collaborations
  • developing management information and internal IT solutions together with the team’s IT and communications officer, so the management gets a stronger basis for decisions

You should expect travel in connection with, among other things, visits to suppliers and Armed Forces units as well as participation in international meetings.

Leadership with us

In FMI, leadership is not reserved for managers – it is everyone’s responsibility. Our leadership is based on FMI’s leadership framework, and as team leader you help translate it into practice every day. You lead with the task at the center: you give your colleagues a clear understanding of purpose and boundaries and have trust that they can act independently within them.

The team’s tasks span all four focus areas in the leadership framework, and you succeed when you get them to work together:

  • Results with decisive action: You set clear goals, prioritize and systematically follow up so the team delivers quickly and on time.
  • Relationships and belonging: You make the team feel like part of both the FMI team and the larger force of defense, industry and international partners.
  • Renewal with courage: You dare to try new ways of working and continuously renew them – and you create a culture where we give each other honest feedback and learn quickly.
  • Stability and credibility: You ensure good governance and solid routines and show that quality and high tempo are not opposites.

In return you get what the leadership framework also obligates us to deliver: support to make decisions, room to try new solutions and opportunities to develop as a leader.

About you

You have a relevant master's degree – e.g., social sciences or business with a specialization in organization, leadership, politics or trade and logistics.

We imagine that you

  • have several years of experience with case handling and coordination from a ministry, an agency or another public authority – or similar experience that has given you solid knowledge of good public administration
  • have experience leading tasks and people, e.g., as team leader, project manager or professional coordinator, and want to develop as a leader
  • communicate clearly and confidently in both Danish and English – in writing and speech, also in international contexts
  • create overview, take responsibility and seek solutions, even when they may be hard to spot
  • be a unifying figure who sets the right tone and creates a culture characterized by trust, honest feedback and a desire to learn

Knowledge of the Armed Forces, drones or international defense cooperation is an advantage but not a requirement. The most important is that you want to learn about the area and to build a strong team from scratch.

Terms of employment

The appointment is made in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Akademikeroverenskomsten).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of a supplement. There is a employer-financed pension scheme linked to the position.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defense’s area you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance during the entire employment.

You have as an employee an obligation to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.

If you have questions about salary and employment terms, you are welcome to contact the Personnel Command, HR consultant Birgit Jepsen at telephone 3266 5811.
