About the job

Do you want to combine your analytical and financial skills with your ability to spar and keep a handle on development and operations in a large organization?

We are looking for a sharp team leader who with a motivating approach and attention to detail can ensure that complex financial data are translated into solid decision bases and easy-to-read reporting.

About us

The Finance Department of the Home Guard Command consists of 12 employees anchored in two teams as well as department leadership. The department is responsible for the overall financial management and control of the Home Guard. We must ensure that we get the most for the money and create the best framework for the Home Guard’s approximately 45,000 volunteers. We are also deeply involved in the engine room during the planning and implementation of a historic growth.

In the Home Guard Command’s Finance Department, which is based in Vordingborg on Zealand, we focus on utilizing and communicating information about finance and governance to the management so that the information is used actively and timely. We have a high level of ambition and a close collaboration with the Ministry of Defence’s department, the Armed Forces, and Home Guard authorities across Denmark.

Our everyday life is characterized by an engaging working environment, good humor, and often high activity. We value an open and informal communication style, which focuses on a holistic view, professional competence, and collegial helpfulness. We always strive to deliver our best, both as individuals and as a team. We have an exciting, diverse, and sometimes busy daily life where we take pride in fulfilling our responsibilities and tasks on time and with high quality.

About the position

As a team leader you will be a central part of the finance function, where you will lead a professional community focused on managing the Home Guard’s total finances and preparing strategic decision proposals. You will have a daily life with high complexity, great influence, and close involvement in the processes that ensure that the Home Guard’s volunteers can deliver almost three million hours annually for formation, education, and support for the Armed Forces and society.

Your main tasks will be to head a team that processes information from Home Guard authorities, prepares financial analyses and decision briefs, and communicates financially relevant matters to the Home Guard’s top management and the Ministry of Defence. This includes translating data into an overview and visually appealing form, so the valuable work carried out in the team is given the right weight in strategic decisions about, for example, the Home Guard’s growth and development.

The position involves independent professional depth, but you will also focus on coordination and quality assurance of the team’s tasks.

About you

You have a relevant advanced education that gives you a solid financial foundation. This could be a MSc in political science, economics, auditor, a relevant MSc, or similar. You are a good communicator who possesses a sharp pen. You have likely experience from a financial function in the public sector—preferably from central administration or a larger agency. Knowledge of the Ministry of Defence’s area is an advantage, but not a condition.

You can work independently and concentr ated with complex issues, but you are also professionally and personally a team player who sees value in leading a professional community and integrating into a unified department. You take responsibility for the task from “cradle to grave,” and can also motivate people around you to take ownership and responsibility. Within the team’s portfolio you will be the immediate “go to” person for the department’s leadership.

You therefore also manage to place the team’s tasks in a larger context with understanding of the importance of the team’s work contributing to broad decisions. Quality on time is a central guiding principle for you, and your work is therefore characterized by thoroughness and efficiency.

Employment terms

The appointment is made in accordance with the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, the position is filled as a special or chief consultant, and there is the possibility of negotiating additional pay. There is an employer-financed pension scheme linked to the position.

The workplace is in Vordingborg, but a number of paid days per month in Copenhagen must be expected.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence’s area, you are subject to special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance throughout the employment.

You, as an employee, are obliged to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Contact and application

If you want to hear more about the position, you are welcome to contact Deputy Head Mads Roden at telephone 6187 1632.

If you have questions about salary and employment terms, you are welcome to contact the Personnel Command, HR Consultant Madeleine Moltke Kæmsgaard at telephone 4031 1094.

The application deadline is November 23, 2026, and interviews will be held on an ongoing basis. The position is initially expected to be filled on January 1, 2027, but another start date can be agreed.

You apply for the position via the link and please attach your application, CV, and copies of degree certificates with grade transcripts. Please note that attachments must be added in PDF format.

In the Ministry of Defence’s organization we believe that diversity optimizes task execution. Therefore we encourage all interested regardless of background to apply for the position.
