About the job

Do you want to help lead the development and implementation of the framework for Danish media?

The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces (Slots- og Kulturstyrelsen) is seeking an ambitious and engaged unit manager for the Center for Media.

A unit with an important societal task

The media sector is developing rapidly. Media business models and users' media habits are changing in line with the increasing digitalization and EU regulation, which are altering the framework for both public service and private media.

The Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces acts as the competent authority in the media area as secretariat for a number of councils and boards, including the Radio and TV Board, the Media Board, the Copyright License Board, and the Media Council for Children and Young People.

The Agency must, with high quality and secure management, handle the many diverse professional issues related to our supervisory duties and the implementation of media support, the execution of media agreements, and the implementation of new legislation, both in the form of national regulation and EU regulation. The Agency maintains close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture's department in the media area.

Your role as unit manager

You will be one of two unit managers in the Agency's Center for Media, where you together handle the personnel leadership of the center's approximately 35 employees. The staff are engaged, have strong professional competencies, and possess extensive knowledge and experience in the field.

As unit manager you will be responsible for setting a clear strategic and professional direction for the unit and creating good conditions for the employees to succeed and thrive.

You must be able to move between the strategic and operational levels and translate organizational and political objectives into concrete results. Together with the other leadership, you actively contribute to the Agency for Culture and Palaces’ task solving and strategic development.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Prioritize the unit's tasks in close dialogue with your colleague, the employees, and the management
  • Support good and efficient collaboration with the Ministry of Culture’s department in the media area, including ensuring timeliness and high quality in the Agency's deliveries
  • Ensure effective grant administration and supervision across the entire media area
  • Support secretariat services for councils and boards at a high professional level
  • Ensure effective implementation of political initiatives in the area
  • Ensure Danish interests in the media area in the EU
  • Contribute to professional and proactive stakeholder management
  • Contribute to proposals on new political initiatives and strategies in the media area
  • Participate in defining and following up the unit's goals and finances
  • Follow up on the Agency's strategy and ensure ongoing development of the area, including competency development of employees and optimization of workflows.

You will be part of the Agency's management team and report to the Deputy Director Sidsel Nordengaard.

A clear and trusted leader

We imagine that you have management experience – formal or informal – from a politically governed organization. You are able to create direction and followership with a steady hand. You communicate clearly, have political acuity and organizational understanding, and can prioritize and make decisions, even when many considerations are at stake.

You have a relevant higher education, e.g. cand.scient.pol, cand.jur., etc.

It would also be an advantage – but not a requirement – if you have competencies within the media area.

Salary and employment terms

The position will be filled on a fixed-term basis and under the terms of the framework agreement on the contract appointment of heads in the state.

The position is placed in salary group 1. Expected start date 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

It is a condition of employment that you can obtain and maintain a security clearance.
