About the job

Do you want to help shape the green transition in Denmark and the EU in the chemical sector, work with a policy area of great importance for both the environment, citizens and businesses, handle complex issues and translate professional knowledge into political solutions? The Ministry of Environment's department is currently seeking a colleague who will help implement and develop EU and Danish chemical legislation. It requires professional insight, strategic thinking, initiative, engagement and a passion to shape the agenda in Denmark, the EU and internationally and to secure support for Danish priorities.

What will you particularly work with?

You will become part of the chemistry pillar in the Office for EU, International and Chemistry, which, among other things, works with EU general chemical legislation, REACH, classification and labeling of chemicals, regulation of chemicals in consumer products, product safety and materials in contact with drinking water.

You will contribute to broad policy development in the chemistry area and work with concrete regulation, where it is a prerequisite that you, with your professional background, understand the technical issues and can translate them into concrete policy. You will participate in cross-disciplinary collaborations where both technical expertise, understanding of law and flair for political context are essential to achieve good results.

You will, among other things, prepare briefings for the minister and the Parliament, professional notes and engage in collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, in Denmark and in the EU.

You will be part of a strong professional environment. We have an engaged, well-functioning and informal working environment with professionally skilled colleagues who value good collaboration, engagement and team spirit.

Our expectations of you

You have a relevant advanced scientific education and thrive in a development-oriented work environment with a focus on cross-disciplinary solutions. We expect that you can see yourself in the following:

  • Good political understanding . You have a good political understanding and can translate technical issues into operative political solutions, nationally and in the EU.
  • Good at managing processes . You are well-structured, maintain an overview in a changing workday and have good control of your tasks and processes.
  • Strong collaboration skills . You are proactive and good at involving and collaborating with colleagues, agencies, ministries and organizations. You thrive in cross-disciplinary cooperation and can deliver solutions to political issues that balance technical, legal and political considerations.
  • Good communicator . You are good at communicating complex issues and solution models clearly and simply with the recipient in mind. Your work includes national and international matters, so it is a prerequisite that you can work in both Danish and English.
  • Good colleague . You are a team player who is motivated by participating in the office's task solving, and you contribute to the good collegiality and positive atmosphere in the office.

Who are we?

In EU, International and Chemistry, we coordinate the Ministry of Environment’s EU work and international initiatives, as well as the work to protect the environment and health from chemicals. The EU pillar has the overarching strategic and coordination responsibility for the Danish EU decision-making procedure across the environmental area and for negotiations on the environmental dossier in Brussels, including preparation of Council meetings.

In the office you will work closely with engaged and skilled colleagues with diverse professional backgrounds, where we place a high value on bringing our different competencies into play. We have an informal tone, where it should be enjoyable to go to work, even when we are busy.
