About the job

Knowledge specialist for Joannahuset – join us in developing violence-informed practice for children and young people in crisis

Joannahuset is Denmark's only crisis center targeted at children and young people under 18 and an entry point for help for children and young people who are considering or have decided to report the violence they are subjected to. Children and young people can contact us on their own initiative to receive counseling, shelter, care and legal aid – 24/7, every day of the week. Children and young people can also have anonymous processes, as long as they are not admitted to shelter.

At Joannahuset we open the door for a child or young person who we have not met before on average every other day. Already in the first conversation, half of them report that they have experienced violence and abuse – usually committed by their close caregiver.

Joannahuset now seeks a colleague who will have a special responsibility to develop our violence-informed practice, so that we can become even better at collaborating with children and young people in the phase where they reach out for help and open up about the violence they are subjected to, including strengthening the bridge-building to authorities and other actors in the field.

Our professional approach is multi-theoretical and trauma-informed, and we work co-create in our processes with children and young people. The strengthening of our violence-informed knowledge and approach must align with the approaches and methods we already use.

About the position

As a knowledge specialist you will play a central role in a 3-year development project , where you will define and implement a violence-informed approach in line with our view of children and youths and our values, in collaboration with your colleagues. At the same time, you will also be able to participate in our on-call schedule as a caregiver and advisor for children and young people who come to the house, so that the development work is anchored close to practice.

Your tasks as a knowledge specialist

  • Map existing knowledge about violence against children and young people and what it means for counseling them at a crisis center where they seek help themselves.
  • Prepare the professional basis for the violence-informed work at Joannahuset in close dialogue with colleagues.
  • Describe and implement the basis in close cooperation with colleagues and through practice-oriented approaches (development workshops, action learning and peer learning).

Your tasks as a counselor

  • Receive and offer care to children and young people in crisis.
  • Advise and collaborate with children and young people based on their perspectives and rights.
  • Manage dialogue and bridge-building to networks, municipalities and other actors.
  • Help young people obtain shelter, including obtaining consent from parents.
  • Participate in daily life at a crisis center, which includes cooking, cleaning and laundry and generally contribute to Joannahuset's environment being homey and cozy.

We imagine that you have

  • Extensive knowledge of and understanding of what violence in close relationships can mean for children and young people, including violence dynamics, coping strategies and trauma responses.
  • Experience with supporting knowledge- and competence development in practice.
  • Desire to develop new violence-informed practice through facilitating development and learning processes, action learning, peer learning and other practice-oriented approaches.
  • Experience with working with children and young people.
  • A relevant education such as psychology or another child-related background.

About Joannahuset

At Joannahuset you will become part of an organization where the foundation is a consciously formulated view of children and young people and a shared binding set of values that applies between colleagues and in the relationship to children and young people. This means, among other things, that we collaborate with children and young people and not around them.

You will become part of a cross-disciplinary community focused on creating space for reflective rooms and professional development in the form of, among other things, various supervision forums, common meetings, Joanna Council, weekly sparring meetings as well as advisor meetings.
