Vigersted Børnehus seeks a warm-hearted kitchen assistant who is passionate about food for children

We are looking for a kitchen assistant who wants to become an important part of everyday life at Vigersted Childcare Center. We expect you to start December 1, 2026.

Who are we?

Vigersted Childcare Center is an age-integrated village institution in Vigersted, close to Ringsted and Borup. We have room for 45 kindergarten children spread over two rooms and 28 toddlers spread over two rooms. We are surrounded by beautiful nature, which we use regularly, and we also enjoy taking trips in the local area as well as into Ringsted.

We have had a meal arrangement since April 1, 2025 , and we view meals as an important learning space where children can, among other things, develop good eating habits, joy in food, and social skills.

We are a kindergarten where children are the focus of our work. We emphasize secure relationships, care, and a warm and positive view of children. At the same time, we prioritize a good working environment where we help each other, collaborate across teams, and speak to and about each other with respect.

Your daily life with us

You will be responsible for the kitchen and for creating good meals for our children. We receive food from Fru Hansen's Cellar , which forms the basis of our meal program. The food is delivered generally twice a week and stored in our kitchen on refrigeration and freezing until it is needed.

Part of the food just needs to be heated and plated, while other parts require you to handle further preparation yourself. In addition, you will bake bread and prepare small dishes for the children’s afternoon meal. You will thus have a daily routine where you work with the delivered food and also put your own stamp on the children’s meals.

Your other tasks include ordering and receiving the food, shopping within a fixed budget, and ensuring dishwashing, order, and self-check in the kitchen.

But your role is about more than just food.

You will be an important outward-facing face in our childcare center, helping to give parents and guests a warm and positive experience when they meet us. In the morning, there may also be a need to help welcome the children and contribute to a safe and good start to the day before you continue with the day’s kitchen tasks.

• Are passionate about making healthy, varied, and tasty food for small children and want to inspire a good food culture.
• Have a warm and positive view of children and meet them with care, respect, and curiosity.
• Want to involve the children in conversations about food and meals and, over time, also in the preparation.
• Are approachable and enjoy contact with children, parents, guests, and colleagues.
• Can work independently, plan your day, and maintain overview of shopping, finances, and practical tasks.
• Are curious about new knowledge about children, nutrition, and meals and want to develop within the field.
• Have or are willing to obtain a hygiene certificate.

You do not need to be a trained chef, but we expect that you have experience with or strong interest in cooking and providing nutritionally sound meals for small children, including following the Danish the Food Administration’s recommendations.

The position is, in principle, limited to one year, as the board every other year decides whether the meal scheme should continue. However, there are good chances for extension.
