About the job

There is rarely a day without a 'Breaking news' story about Denmark's emergency preparedness: climate change, cyber threats, supply disruptions, or new requirements for Denmark due to a changed security policy. There is a focus on Denmark's preparedness like never before.

In Stevns Municipality we want to be well prepared – both for what is expected and for what we cannot foresee – and therefore we are seeking an emergency management coordinator who will play a central role in developing and coordinating Stevns Municipality's overall emergency response.

You will get a newly created position with great autonomy and a broad contact surface across the organization.

Together with good colleagues, your task will be to quality-assure and translate plans into concrete action and ensure that we as a municipality are prepared, trained and able to act when a major incident or crisis occurs.

A cross-cutting role across the entire municipality

As an emergency coordinator you will have a cross-cutting role across Stevns Municipality and will work closely with leaders and employees in all of the municipality's centers, which have different starting points for thinking about preparedness.

You become the municipality's professional focal point and shall support the organization in the work to prevent, prepare for and handle incidents that can affect the municipality's operations and our ability to carry out the most important tasks for the citizens.

You also gain an important interface to our joint rescue service with Køge and Solrød municipalities as well as to utility companies, authorities and other relevant partners.

Your tasks

The emergency management area is under development, and you will therefore have the opportunity to help shape both the position and the way we work with emergency management in Stevns Municipality going forward.

You will have a special responsibility to create coherence and momentum in the municipality's emergency work. This includes, among other things, that you shall:

  • develop and maintain the municipality's main emergency plan, sub-plans, incident plans and instructions.
  • coordinate continuity planning, vulnerable citizens and the municipality's ability to maintain critical functions during major events and crises
  • develop and maintain the municipality's crisis management organization as well as plan and conduct exercises and training
  • contribute to ensuring the practical emergency preparedness around, among other things, power supply, alternative communication and other relevant emergency equipment
  • monitor the development of risks and threat landscape and translate recommendations and authorities' requirements into concrete initiatives in the organization.

An important part of the role will be to advise and support managers and employees across the municipality. You do not have to solve all emergency tasks yourself, but be the one who creates overview, coherence and progress and helps the organization to be aware of its own roles and responsibilities.

You also get a central role in collaboration with our joint rescue service and other authorities and partners. And when a major incident occurs, you will naturally have an active role in supporting the municipality's crisis management.

For us, preparedness is not only about plans and documents. It must be something the organization knows, practices and can act on when the situation requires it. It requires an ability to handle and sometimes reduce complexity in plan and action.

Who are you?

There can be several paths into the position. For example, you may have an educational or professional background in emergency management, disaster and risk management, security, public administration or another relevant area.

The most important is that you have a solid professional understanding of emergency preparedness and crisis management and can translate it into solutions that work in practice. You should be able to move between the strategic and the concrete – from the overarching emergency plan to an exercise, an instruction or a concrete issue at one of our workplaces.

The role requires you to create structure and progress in an area with many different actors and dependencies.

You must be good at building relationships and able to communicate complex issues clearly to both leaders, employees and external partners.

At the same time we are looking for a colleague with impact who dares to ask questions, follow up and persist when necessary.

You must thrive with a high degree of independence, take responsibility for driving your tasks forward and be able to maintain an overview when the situation changes rapidly.

Experience from a politically led organization is an advantage but not a requirement.

About the Center for Technology & Environment

You will organizationally be part of the Center for Technology & Environment and report directly to the center manager.

Although your organizational home is here, your field of work covers the entire Stevns Municipality. A large part of your daily life will therefore consist of collaborating with the municipality's other centers, institutions and workplaces.

In Stevns Municipality we value short decision-making paths, cross-department collaboration and the opportunity to take responsibility.

As an emergency coordinator you will have a role where the ability to build relationships and get different parts of the organization to work together becomes decisive.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is 37 hours per week.

Salary and terms of employment are according to the applicable collective agreement and the principles of local pay formation. The salary level is expected to be around DKK 45,000 – 48,000 per month excluding pension.

Would you like to know more?

If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to contact the head of the Center for Technology & Environment, Filip Hedegaard-Kristensen, at telephone number 2353 4129.

The application deadline is Sunday, 15 November 2026.

We expect to hold the first round of interviews on Friday 20 November 2026 and the second round on Wednesday 25 November 2026.
