The organization

Our internal vocational school is Fonden Bakkegården's day services for young people aged 13 – 25 who are enrolled at one of our residences, young people who, for example, are not education-ready and do not fit into the established arrangements or young people who are no longer required to attend school.

At the vocational school we offer individualized and specially tailored vocational and education-oriented school and apprenticeship programs and clarification programs.

The vocational school consists of a multi-workshop auto/metal and also a wood workshop where we carry out various projects related to the youths' interests, e.g., scooter project or something they want to make in metal or wood, and we also service the foundation's fleet of 10 – 15 vehicles – we occasionally also run dirt track racing on our ATVs and Bo-carts, etc.

The vocational school also has a close collaboration with our affiliated creative workshop / cafe – with 2 staff members located in a separate 180 m2 building on the same site as the Vocational School.

Fonden Bakkegården operates a total of 9 different residential facilities in the municipalities of Aarhus, Favrskov and Randers, and we have about 85 permanent staff in the Foundation, supplemented by 30 - 40 permanent and temporary substitutes.

The target group

Our target group is young people aged 13 – 25 with, for example, the following challenges and difficulties:

• Social adjustment difficulties - anti- and/or dyssocial behavior
• Massive neglect, upbringing-related lack of structure and boundaries
• Learning difficulties and/or lack of continuity in schooling
• Diagnosed and undiagnosed psychiatric issues, such as ADHD/ADD, etc.
• Verbally and physically out-of-control behavior
• Personality and attachment disorders
• Youths with mild intellectual disability or low IQ
• Youths with mild to moderate substance use
• Youths with court orders or youth sanctions phase 2 and 3

The workplace

The internal Vocational School / the creative workshop and cafe bring together 3 - 5 permanent staff, qualified teachers and occupational therapists who work in close coordinated fashion around 4 to 10 students in a targeted and development-oriented way with a solid professional documentation level.

The workshop also offers distinct work placement programs and employment programs for both internal and external students. In addition the vocational school can offer sheltered employment pursuant to § 103.

The workshop teaching is very practice-oriented and aims to help the students test their abilities in a craft environment, with the opportunity to approach different selected trades and groups. We attach great importance to students meeting the same requirements, norms, and work routines as they would normally encounter in a workplace or an educational institution.

In the pedagogical daily life we aim to create good caring, close relationships with the young people in an appreciative, inclusive and spacious pedagogical environment.
