Can you bring people together toward a common direction, facilitate collaborations, and move processes forward, even when the path is not laid out in advance? And would you like to help translate political ambitions into action across Herning Municipality and with the outside world?

Herning Municipality was not created by doing what’s expected.

The municipality is shaped by people who have had ideas, created communities and turned ambitions into action. People who have seen opportunities where others saw limits, and who have had the courage to bring others together around something larger than themselves.

This approach also shapes the council’s view of the future. The council has set a direction with three cross-cutting ambitions

• We will strengthen and develop the capacity to act
• We will be world champions in everyday life
• We will develop the country’s most attractive educational institution

The ambitions point to some of the most important questions for Herning Municipality’s future: How do we strengthen the ability to act and create change? How do we create good lives and strong communities? And how do we develop an educational environment that attracts people and gives them a desire to stay?

The ambitions are not goals that can be checked off. They are a common direction and an invitation to find new solutions together with others.

Therefore we are looking for a person who can translate the ambitions into movement and action. You will gather people, facilitate processes, build collaborations and help create momentum when different professional backgrounds, interests and perspectives come together. You will help others succeed in turning the ambitions into practice.

Who are you?

You are focused on how large ambitions become reality, and you know that development is rarely created by one person alone. It arises when people come together around a common task and when good ideas are turned into action.

You thrive in the role of the one who makes collaboration work and the process move forward. You can bring people together, ask the questions that push the work forward, and create a framework where different perspectives can meet and be turned into action. You don’t always need to provide the solutions yourself. The important thing is that you can help good ideas emerge, refine them with others and support that they are translated into action.

You are curious about people and good at building trust. You are more concerned with helping others succeed than with being in the spotlight yourself. You do not feel the need to dominate the room, but you are good at getting others to step forward.

You can navigate in different contexts and adapt your role to what the task calls for. In one moment you facilitate a process with leaders and employees. The next you meet citizens, businesses, educational institutions, associations or local communities. You can operate in all contexts without losing sight of the common direction.

You thrive in complexity and in tasks where there isn’t necessarily one right answer. You can move between different perspectives, disciplines and interests and create momentum without always having formal decision-making power.

At the same time, you understand the political level and the reality that shapes decisions in a politically led organization. You can navigate between political ambitions, strategic priorities and the everyday life where ambitions must be translated into action.

Perhaps you have experience from a municipality, an organization, a business or something quite different. The most important thing is not where you come from. The most important thing is how you work and how you bring people, processes and possibilities to come together.

We also hope you bring something different to the table than what’s expected. That you have the courage to challenge conventional thinking, ask questions others do not ask, and go where the ice may creak a little.

About the role – and what you will be part of

The position is new. The same goes for how we work with the council’s ambitions.

You will become part of a smaller, cross-functional development environment with different professional profiles and competencies. Here you will have the opportunity to help shape both your own role, the group’s working form and the way Herning Municipality will in the future work to create movement and action based on the council’s ambitions.

We are therefore looking for a person who thrives in something that is still being built. You are curious and exploratory, but can also create structure, direction and momentum. You want to test new approaches, learn along the way and develop solutions together with others.

The group’s task is not to create the results themselves, but to create the frameworks, relationships and opportunities that make it easier for others to succeed. The group shall support movement, collaboration and development across the organization and with the outside world. This also means that you will have a role where results are rarely attributable to one person, but where you have the opportunity to contribute to changes that only arise when people come together around them.

Organizationally you will be anchored in the Directorate Secretariat. Your immediate supervisor will be a new manager in the Directorate Staff, who takes up the position on January 1, 2027.

Your task will unfold across the entire municipality and in close interaction with the outside world. You will among other things collaborate with managers, employees, departments, companies, educational institutions, associations and local communities.

Much of your work will therefore take place close to everyday life and the people who will translate the ambitions into reality. You must be there where collaborations form, opportunities arise, and ambitions meet practice.

That means, among other things, that you must

• be part of a group that works with the council’s ambitions across Herning Municipality
• create links between ambitions, operations and development
• facilitate processes and collaborations
• support leaders, employees and partners in translating the ambitions into action
• identify and support new initiatives and collaboration opportunities
• mobilize relevant actors around common challenges and opportunities
• strengthen learning and knowledge sharing across the organization
• be curious about how the ambitions leave their mark in daily life and in task solving
• create new connections between people, professional fields and actions
• listen to political wishes and be open to new decisions along the way
