About the job
Import/export is seeking one more skilled and engaged colleague to take care of the technical professional assessment of applications for import and export of waste. Do you want to be part of a professionally strong team that works to ensure responsible waste management across borders with a focus on circular economy as well as efficient and clear administration?
In the Danish Energy Agency's Center for Circular Economy we handle, among other things, applications for permission to transfer waste into and out of Denmark. In this context we must ensure that the waste is handled in accordance with both Danish and international rules. We must also ensure that end-of-life ships are scrapped legally. It is a task that requires broad professional competencies.
Applications are processed by administrative caseworkers, lawyers and technicians, who together ensure compliance with all requirements for the content of the application, and perform the final assessment of whether the application can be approved. The professional assessment of the technical information in the application as well as sparring with the team's lawyers is a very important part of the task.
About the job A day as an AC technician in the import/export team means that you will balance between tasks that require systematic review and assessment of documentation based on known assessment criteria, and tasks where analytical method and professional overview are necessary to make decisions that set new precedents.
As a technician your task regarding concrete applications for import or export will be to ensure that the information in the application regarding the waste's origin, classification, composition, properties and the intended treatment is sufficiently disclosed and complies with the rules.
In addition your tasks will include among others
- Internal and external guidance in the area – concrete guidance to companies, sparring across the Energy Agency's professional units as well as drafting and quality assurance of guides and information material.
- Important sparring with the agency's classification team – to ensure crucial knowledge sharing about classification of waste in Danish and international contexts.
- Professional assistance to the political system – collaboration with the ministry, answering parliamentary questions, contributing to speech and press preparations etc.
- Stakeholder involvement – e.g. participation in information days and meetings with Danish and international actors.
- Supervision of international waste transports – participate in physical inspections and provide professional assistance in concrete inspection cases.
- Representation in international forums - to harmonize practices and ensure effective regulation of waste transport.
Common to the tasks is that you will independently take care of exciting tasks with great societal attention. We focus on not leaving anyone alone with a responsibility area and that there are good conditions for professional dialogue and knowledge sharing.
Our expectations of you
- You have a relevant higher education in science, e.g., engineering.
- You are professionally well-founded and ready to acquire new competencies.
- You are ready to take on a specialist role that supports both daily operations and political tasks.
- You must be a skilled communicator in writing and speech, so you can translate professionally complicated material so that it can be conveyed to different target groups.
- You must also be a team player who values collaboration across many different professional fields.
- An important premise is that you are thorough and systematic, and that you work in a structured way with good documentation habits.
- In addition we expect that you are used to navigating and involving digital tools in your daily work.
- You must thrive in a changing daily life, where you must balance both long-term and unforeseen tasks – sometimes with short deadlines.
- You do not need to have experience from a public authority, but you must be prepared that government service, note-taking obligations and good administrative conduct become the framework for your daily work.
- It is also a condition that you speak and write English, as we often communicate with foreign actors.
It is advantageous if you have professional insight into waste and waste management, including composition, properties, life cycle and different treatment technologies for waste. Experience with authority supervision is also an advantage. We arrange a thorough onboarding program for you so you can confidently start tackling your new tasks with us.
Participation in supervision tasks as well as international forums may involve travel, irregular working hours and possibly occasional overnight stays. We are a commuter-friendly workplace with flexitime and the possibility of home working. And we place a lot of emphasis on ensuring various social events for those who are interested.
