About the job

Geriatric Ward in Odense seeks a nurse for our well-functioning department. Start date 1/1-27 or by agreement.

If you would like to continuously develop your competences and achieve high professionalism, you have the opportunity to become part of a unique interdisciplinary environment where clinic, development and research are connected and seen as each other’s preconditions.

We place great emphasis on introduction and onboarding and tailor a program for you aimed at ongoing competence development and an introduction to the specialty.

The positions are 37 hours/week in mixed shifts. We work with a preference plan and together with our shift planner a duty roster is prepared that also takes your needs and wishes into account.

Who are we? / Our patients

The geriatric patient is characterized by complex medical issues (both acute and chronic), high medication use, loss of functional capacity and reduced self-care ability. In addition, many geriatric patients present with cognitive impairment, either as part of an acute illness course or as part of their chronic condition. The vulnerability that can characterize the geriatric patient demands both special nursing competencies and empathy.

At the Geriatric Ward we receive patients from the acute emergency department around the clock, and to ensure the best possible course for each patient, our unique interdisciplinary collaboration comes into play already from the moment patients are admitted with us.

One of our core values is the shared focus on the individual patient. We believe that strong interdisciplinary collaboration is crucial for patients and relatives to receive the best possible care and treatment. Therefore, in all our patient pathways you will experience a truly unique cooperation between all professional groups in the department; nurses, social and health care assistants, doctors, occupational and physical therapists, secretaries, dieticians, etc.

We have increased focus on involving both patient and relatives throughout the entire hospitalization, and we place great emphasis on creating secure discharges, which is why we also have a very close collaboration with the primary sector.

The geriatric ward has 29 beds and we are organized in teams around these.

We are looking for a nurse who

  • Is passionate about working with the acutely ill elderly medical patient
  • Aims for high professionalism with a focus on the individual patient, and sees a challenge in working with complex patient pathways
  • Works independently, efficiently and compassionately, with a welcoming demeanor and prioritizes the relationship with patients and relatives
  • Is interested in and actively contributes to continuous improvements and supports the development of multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Is loyal, helpful, flexible and mindful of one’s own communication, and ready to both give and receive feedback
  • Is motivated to eventually engage in learning processes and participate in training new colleagues and supervising students/apprentices

You can expect

  • Two months of introduction to our department and the geriatric specialty
  • An exciting and dynamic daily life where helpfulness is at the forefront
  • Opportunity for supervision every two weeks with our nursing science professor in vulnerability Dorthe Nielsen
  • Mono-disciplinary meetings every week, where various topics are taught
  • Engaged and competent colleagues who are passionate about geriatrics
  • A unique opportunity to work with complex nursing professional problems in close interdisciplinary collaboration with geriatric enthusiasts
  • A good working environment where we take good care of and prioritize each other

We work every 2nd or every 3rd weekend
