As a pedagogical assistant trainee in Sønderborg Municipality you will be part of a strong professional community where learning, development and collaboration are at the center.

You do not need to have experience in the pedagogical field. The most important thing is that you want to learn, develop and be part of a work community.

We are looking for 2 trainees for Basic Course 2 with start in week 6 2027 and with an education agreement in Sønderborg Municipality you are guaranteed both salary and a training place throughout the entire education program .

An education with both heart and professional knowledge

The pedagogical assistant education is for you who want a everyday life close to people and who want to help strengthen well-being, development and community.

Through the education you will learn to work professionally and pedagogically with people of different ages and life situations. You will gain knowledge about pedagogy, communication, relationships and cooperation, which you learn to translate into practice through your training periods. At the same time you build competences to plan and implement pedagogical activities, create participation opportunities in communities and support health, well-being and quality of life for children, youths and adults.

During the course you will gain experience from both the general and the special education sectors, where you work closely with citizens, relatives, colleagues and other professional groups. You will learn to use communication and relationship-building as central tools in pedagogical work and you will also gain insight into how activities, outdoor life and digital solutions can support learning, development and community.

What does daily life look like?

As a pedagogical assistant trainee you get an exciting and varied education, where you have the opportunity to experience different areas within the pedagogical field.

In your training periods in the general area you become part of everyday life, for example in a day care setting, where you work with children's well-being, development, play and learning. You gain experience in planning activities and creating participation opportunities in communities.

Later in the education you will be trained in the special area, where you work with adult citizens and support their well-being, development and quality of life. Regardless of training site you become part of a professional community where collaboration, relationships, presence and professional reflection are fundamental values in daily work.

You will receive ongoing guidance from trained training supervisors throughout the education, and we work closely with SOSU South to create the best framework for your education program.

Your path to becoming a pedagogical assistant

You start Basic Course 2 in week 6 2027 at SOSU South in Aabenraa. The Basic Course lasts as a rule 20 weeks.

When you have passed Basic Course 2, you continue to the main course for becoming a pedagogical assistant.

The main course lasts 2 years and 1.5 months and alternates between school and training periods.

School periods take place at SOSU South in Aabenraa, while the training takes place in Sønderborg Municipality.

Keep an eye on Sønderborg Municipality’s job postings in spring 2027, where we expect to announce an additional 10 trainee slots for the main course.

Admission requirements

To start Basic Course 2 you must meet the admission requirements for the education, including having passed Danish and mathematics from the 9th grade with at least grade 02.

You must also have applied for admission to Basic Course 2 at SOSU South in Aabenraa via optagelse.dk.

If you are 25 years old or older, you must have completed a recognition of prior learning (RKV) at SOSU South or another SOSU school.

A recognition of prior learning (RKV) can show whether you have the possibility of merit for parts of the education based on previous experience.

How to apply

To get started you must apply for admission to Basic Course 2 via optagelse.dk and then apply to enter an education agreement with Sønderborg Municipality. Send your application, CV and relevant attachments via the application link .

You must at minimum include

• documentation of Danish and mathematics from the 9th grade
• RKV, if you are 25 or older
• residence and work permit if you come from a country outside the EU/Schengen Area
• documentation of work experience if you apply for adult trainee wage
• CV and other relevant documents.

You can receive adult trainee wage if you are 25 or older and meet the requirements for relevant work experience.

You must document your work experience yourself.
