About the job

Do you want to work in the world's largest humanitarian organization and help create security, structure and dignity for asylum seekers in a daily life characterized by waiting and uncertainty? Then the position as a center staff member at the Holmegaard asylum center on Langeland may be for you.

Center Holmegaard is a residence center for asylum seekers awaiting a decision in their case.

The center is operated by the Red Cross asylum department and provides the framework for a daily life where people from different nationalities – singles, couples and families with children aged 0-17 – live in an unsettled situation.

Here, efforts are made with a focus on health, education, activation and volunteering, with the common goal of creating security, structure and dignity in daily life.

About the task

As a center staff member you participate in this holistic effort and become a central part of the residents' daily life.

The task consists of creating calm and an overview in a complex daily life where both human considerations and practical tasks go hand in hand. Work is focused on ensuring a safe reception of new residents and good accommodation, where rights and duties are communicated clearly, and where each person receives a comprehensible introduction to life at the center.

Through ongoing contact, dialogue and inclusion you support the residents' well-being and opportunity to participate in communities. At the same time, the task requires attention to vulnerability and social issues among both children and adults, where outreach and preventive work is carried out. As a center staff member you are part of the center's emergency response and contribute to a calm and professional handling of acute situations, conflicts and crises.

The position involves close collaboration across professional groups internally in the asylum department and with external actors, including the Danish Immigration Service, schools and other partners. The center staff member acts as a link in this interaction and contributes to coherence in the efforts around the individual resident.

The task also involves documentation and record-keeping as well as coordination in connection with, for example, the start of school and institutions. In addition, there are practical tasks that support the daily operation of the center.

A bit about you

Ideally you have a relevant education in pedagogy, social work or similar, and experience from working with people in vulnerable positions. It is important that you thrive in relational work and can handle administrative tasks, which in periods can occupy a significant part of everyday life.

We place emphasis on you

  • Have strong relational competencies and a trust-building approach in meeting people
  • Have experience with or understanding of conflict and crisis management
  • Can collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and with external actors
  • Communicate clearly and effectively convey messages
  • Are proficient in written Danish and can handle documentation tasks
  • Speak English at conversation level; knowledge of other languages is an advantage in contact with residents

We offer

  • A meaningful job in a humanitarian organization where humanity forms the basis of the effort
  • Opportunity to make a concrete and daily difference for people in vulnerable positions
  • Opportunity to work in a very special environment with close cross-collaboration and exchange of competencies
