About the job

Are you a consultant psychiatrist, and are you motivated by working with complex psychiatric patient pathways in a ward with high professional standards, strong multidisciplinary collaboration and the opportunity to influence the continued development?

We are seeking an engaged consultant psychiatrist for the Department of Depression and Anxiety (DDA), Aarhus University Hospital, with primary attachment to Ward 4, to commence on 1 December 2026 or by agreement.

The position is full-time. You will have your daily role in Ward 4 and, in addition, be part of the specialist on-call team in adult psychiatry at AUH.

About the Department of Depression and Anxiety

The Department of Depression and Anxiety is one of three adult psychiatric departments at Aarhus University Hospital and consists of about 600 staff across four inpatient wards, five outpatient clinics, the Psychiatry House, and an active research unit. The department also provides ECT and TMS treatment.

We prioritise high professional quality, multidisciplinary collaboration, patient and relative involvement, and continuous development of our treatment offers. There are good opportunities to engage in quality improvement, teaching and education.

Become part of a department in development

Ward 4 is a protected 24-bed inpatient ward that receives patients with complex psychiatric problems. The ward treats, among other things, patients with bipolar disorder, unipolar depression, schizoaffective states, late-onset psychoses, oligophrenia, and organic conditions.

Ward 4 currently rests on a strong foundation after a targeted development effort. We are in the midst of an ambitious professional development process, where competency development, supervision, de-escalation and ongoing focus on quality are central elements. The aim is to create even better patient pathways, strengthen patient safety and develop a ward known for strong multidisciplinary collaboration and a good working environment.

As a consultant psychiatrist, you will be a central professional key person with great opportunity to influence both the daily patient care and the further professional development of the ward.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary leadership team consisting of the Chief Physician, the Chief Psychologist, the Chief Nurse, and two strong deputy heads. We emphasise high professionalism, mutual respect, and a culture where different professional perspectives contribute to shared solutions and ongoing development.

Your tasks

  • assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients in Ward 4
  • supervision, teaching and guidance of junior doctors and other professional groups
  • contribute to the development of treatment quality, patient safety and the cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • co-responsibility for work with the Psychiatry Act as well as prevention and reduction of coercion
  • active participation in quality development, organisational development and implementation of new professional initiatives
  • participation in the consultant on-call team in adult psychiatry.

We are looking for a consultant psychiatrist who

  • has an interest in treating patients with complex psychiatric disorders
  • wishes to work in a strong multidisciplinary environment
  • thrives on combining clinical work, supervision, teaching and quality development
  • works in a structured manner and has good collaboration and communication skills
  • wishes to actively contribute to the continued development of Ward 4.

We offer

We offer a position with broad clinical scope, engaged colleagues and good opportunities for further education. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a ward with high professional ambitions and a leadership team that values dialogue, cooperation and professional development highly.
