About the job

Do you want to help shape the future Danish navy? As a Contract Manager you will negotiate and manage the contracts behind the Defence's procurement of new ships and maritime capabilities.

About us

Denmark is facing a comprehensive modernization of the navy. New ships and maritime capabilities shall strengthen the Defence's ability to carry out its tasks at sea, in Danish waters, in the Arctic and internationally.

This is where the Navy Programme comes into play.

We are part of the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI) and are responsible for implementing the political decisions on the future navy. It is a large and complex task that ranges from the procurement of new ships and maritime capabilities to making them available for the Defence.

Our work includes, among other things, new Arctic ships, frigates, vessels for the Home Guard and capacities for monitoring critical infrastructure beneath the ocean surface.

The Navy Programme consists of a number of projects and a common programme office (PMO) that supports the management and ensures coherence and progress across the projects. We work closely across military and civilian disciplines, where political decisions, technical solutions and the Defence's needs must come together in one unified approach. The programme office assists the programme management and the programme in maintaining consistent and structured governance.

As an organisation, we are responsible for the overall implementation of the individual capabilities from materiel procurement to operational deployment and the building of the total capability.

For now we are responsible for the implementation and project preparation of the following maritime capabilities:

  • Arctic ships
  • Coastal environmental and mine-laying vessels
  • New capacity for monitoring critical undersea infrastructure
  • Vessels for the Home Guard
  • Production capacity
  • Icebreaker
  • Frigate

As an organisation our task is to ensure governance and progress of the project’s criteria and to set and follow the timelines associated with the acquisitions.

About the position

As Contract Manager in the Navy Programme's Program Management Office (PMO), you will play a central role in working on some of the Defence's largest and most complex contracts.

You will be involved from negotiation and contract formation to follow-up and management of contractual challenges. You will become an important sparring partner for project managers and programme management and will have a broad contact surface to suppliers, lawyers, and technical and commercial specialists.

Your main tasks will be

  • Ensure professional contract management and follow up on deliveries, deadlines and obligations
  • Plan and support complex contract negotiations
  • Advise project managers and programme management on contracts and supplier relationships
  • Handle contract changes, claims, risks and any disputes in collaboration with relevant disciplines
  • Develop common methods and ensure uniform contract management across the Navy Programme's projects

You will have a role with great responsibility, professional challenges and the opportunity to influence how we work with contracts in a programme of substantial importance for Denmark's future defence.

We offer a strong professional community, good development opportunities, flexible working hours and the possibility of homeworking.

About you

You have solid experience negotiating and managing large, complex contracts and a relevant advanced degree, e.g., in law, economics or engineering.

We also place emphasis on the following

  • Work in a structured and analytical manner and create progress in complex processes
  • Collaborate well across disciplines and interests and build strong relationships
  • Maintain an overview and handle disagreements, even when negotiations intensify
  • Communicate clearly and precisely in Danish and English
  • Take responsibility and drive tasks to completion independently

If you do not have all the qualifications, but can see yourself in the role, we still encourage you to apply.

Terms of employment

The employment is governed by the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the public sector (Academics Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there may be a possibility for negotiating additional pay. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee within the Ministry of Defence's area, you are subject to certain special conditions. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout your employment.

You have as an employee a duty to render service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.

About the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization

The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (FMI) is Denmark’s central authority for the armed forces' and emergency services’ materiel, IT and cyber security in peace, crisis and war. We work to ensure that the entire defence is equipped, updated and operational — at a time when requirements for speed and combat power have never been greater. We are the ones who procure, operate and dispose of materiel and IT for the Army, Navy, Air Force and the rest of the Defence Ministry.

It is our IT staff who daily help prevent the cyberattacks the organisation faces. We are a diverse organisation with about 2,500 employees — civilian and military — distributed across the realm.
