Director of Business Development

Viborg Municipality seeks a Director of Economic Development who can translate large political ambitions into concrete economic development and growth.

A newly created directorate position with substantial strategic latitude and an opportunity to shape development in one of Denmark's large economic municipalities.

Viborg Municipality has a large and diverse business community with about 52,000 jobs and significant development opportunities. This includes not least the upcoming national industrial park in Foulum, the Central Jutland highway, and the municipality's strengths in, among other things, production, construction, food, green transition and creative industries.

The council, with the new Cohesion Model, has made development and growth the first watchword and Denmark's best business municipality the first objective. The ambition is to strengthen the business climate, develop the existing business community and attract new companies and investments. An annual growth package of DKK 10 million is to support the development efforts.

As Director of Economic Development you will be a strategic advisor to the council and the administrative leadership and will help set direction and deliver results. You must strengthen dialogue with businesses across the municipality and develop a more proactive effort to attract companies and investments.

A main task will be to rethink the local business service, including carrying out tenders for the tasks. You shall ensure a more coherent and business-oriented business service with clear goals and greater impact. At the same time you will play a central role in the commercial development of the industrial park in Foulum and the new business opportunities along the highway.

You report directly to the municipal CEO and will have your workplace close to the executive leadership and the mayor. The position does not include traditional HR and operations responsibilities, but provides a clear cross-cutting mandate, access to professional resources, and substantial freedom to develop the initiatives. A large part of the work takes place in close contact with businesses and external partners.

We are seeking a strategically strong and results-oriented profile with solid business understanding, political acumen and strong relational skills. You can speak the language of business, are keen to operate in a politically led organization, and can deliver results in complex collaboration.
