About the job

Are you motivated by creating direction, structure and development, and would you like to lead two central initiatives for residents at the Holmegaard asylum center – adult education and adult activation – and make a concrete difference for the center's residents? Then you may be our upcoming functional manager at Center Holmegaard on Langeland.

Holmegaard is a reception center that houses asylum seekers from different nationalities. Currently there are singles and families with and without children at the center while they await a decision on their asylum application from the authorities.

By participating in teaching and activation offers, the center's adult residents get the opportunity to learn languages (Danish and/or English), take part in meaningful communities, clarify their competencies and develop their own resources and opportunities.

All residents over 18 are offered Danish language classes and internships. The internship can take place externally at a company or internally at the center in, for example, the recycled goods shop, barber salon, sewing workshop or one of our other workshops. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to participate in activities facilitated by volunteers. As functional manager you are responsible for ensuring the framework for the work, setting direction and prioritizing.

Your role and your tasks

As functional manager you have, in close collaboration with the center manager, the overall professional, coordinating and personnel responsibilities for eight employees distributed between adult education and adult activation and volunteer areas. You ensure stable operation and continuously develop the effort in line with current legislation and the center's strategic goals, while creating the framework for employees to perform their tasks effectively and meaningfully.

In collaboration with the staff you define direction and priorities for teaching, activations and activities and ensure alignment with other functions at the center. Together you develop locally tailored strategies for resident involvement and active participation.

You have the overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining collaborations with internal and external actors, volunteers and the local community, so the effort remains relevant, inclusive and meaningful for the residents.

As functional manager you will handle the financial management of your area, and you must be able to participate in daily operations during staff absences when needed.

In addition you will act as the closest sparring partner for and support the center manager with other leadership tasks in relation to the overall operation of Center Holmegaard.

A clear leadership role with a focus on the coherence between adult education and adult activation

Adult education and activation are existing offerings at the center, which are now brought together in a separate management area. As functional manager you will be responsible for establishing clear frames for the collaboration between the two areas, which are characterized by a high degree of interdependence. This is achieved through developing a clear leadership framework and a common leadership practice that strengthens internal collaboration and ensures a coherent effort with a focus on meeting goals and results.

In this role you will work with an inclusive and listening approach, where you create room for dialogue and reflection, clarify roles and responsibilities and support the team to function as a unified and well-functioning community. The aim is to create an environment where employees thrive, learn from each other, develop, and where the effort is both meaningful for residents and efficiently coordinated across functions.

Your profile

You are a clear and present leader who can create direction and following – and who thrives in a daily life where people, structures and the regulatory framework call for your attention.

We imagine that you have management experience from social, integration, educational or employment areas – e.g. from a humanitarian or politically driven organization. Knowledge of volunteering would be a strength in the position.

You think holistically, have strong coordination skills and an eye for how different professional areas play together.

Your core competencies

  • You have a sense of when staff need managerial discretion, and when they need a leader who sets direction, creates an overview and makes priorities. You are accessible and present without micromanaging, and you trust the staff's professional judgment and responsibility.
  • Good at working project-oriented and experience with cross-functional and external collaboration.
  • Ensure a good working environment, psychological safety, trust among colleagues.

Overall we want a leader who can act in accordance with the Red Cross’s principles and leadership values.

What you get with us

  • You will become part of a workplace with a strong humanitarian value base, where we every day work to create security, development and community for people on the run.
  • You will have a central role in the development of two important areas and be part of a committed community where cooperation, professionalism and humanity go hand in hand.
  • You will have ample opportunity for personal and professional development and will be part of a leadership network across disciplines and centers.
