About the job

Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq söker en självständig och handlingskraftig avdelningsleder som kan sätta riktning, samla människor och skapa konkreta resultat genom sitt team och i nära samarbete med näringslivet.

You will have the management responsibility for the municipality's business and tourism efforts – and for Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut and Destination East Greenland.

We seek you who take initiative, open doors and follow up. You should together with your staff be visible and proactive among the businesses in Nuuk, Paamiut, Tasiilaq, Ittoqqortoormiit and the settlements. You can bring your employees' different competences into play, so that together you see local opportunities, build strong networks and translate dialogue into cooperation and action.

Your responsibilities

You will be responsible for the department's seven employees and must create the framework for you together to succeed with the business and tourism efforts. You set clear direction, prioritise tasks and ensure progress, while giving employees responsibility, room for initiative and the possibility to use their professional expertise. You work independently, make decisions within your managerial authority and take responsibility for driving development forward.

In addition

·Lead and develop the municipality's business and tourism efforts based on political goals, local needs and companies' conditions into concrete actions and results.

·Build and maintain close relationships with the business community across the municipality, facilitate business forums and networking meetings and translate companies' input into relevant initiatives.

·Assume the overall management responsibility for Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut and Destination East Greenland and ensure direction, coordination and local anchoring.

·Strengthen the framework conditions for business, including maritime businesses, fisheries and hunting, and develop the interplay between tourism and other businesses.

·Ensure qualified political servicing with clear briefing notes, decision proposals and follow-up.

·Create momentum in projects and partnerships and coordinate efforts across departments.

You create results through leadership and relationships

We seek a strong leadership profile with a proven ability to take responsibility and drive initiatives from idea to implementation. You do not need to wait for a finished task description to act. You identify needs, bring together the right actors and ensure that agreements are followed through.

You understand how to work in a politically governed organization. You respect the division of roles between politics and administration, provide a factual decision basis and loyally implement the political decisions. At the same time you can make opportunities, priorities and consequences clear to both management and partners.

We value that you

·Have solid leadership experience and can create clear direction, responsibility and engagement among employees.

·Have experience with business development and/or tourism and understand the daily life of companies and development opportunities.

·Are a strong networker who can establish trust, facilitate meetings and bring different interests together around concrete initiatives.

·Work independently, prioritise sharply and maintain progress, even when tasks are complex.

·Have political and organizational understanding and communicate clearly and persuasively in writing and speech.

·Have understanding of Greenlandic societal conditions and can adapt initiatives to different local conditions in towns and settlements.

∙Bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement

We offer

You will take a central leadership role with the opportunity to shape the development of business and tourism across Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. You will lead engaged staff and gain a broad collaboration platform with businesses, destination actors, organizations and colleagues across the municipality. We expect initiative and responsibility and will give you room to apply your professional knowledge and leadership.
