Head of Oversight with an eye for operations, followership and the common direction

As the head of inspections, you will have the management responsibility for a group of inspection officers who work self-directed and at distance. You must translate the common direction into stable operations with high professional quality and create commitment and cohesion in the group. At the same time you become part of a leadership group that shares responsibility for Tilsynscenter Syds overall task execution.

The Danish Working Environment Authority is a politically led organization. This means that our tasks and priorities are shaped among other things by political agreements, legislation and the ongoing development in the field of occupational safety and health. As head of inspections you must be able to navigate securely within these frameworks and translate broad goals and decisions into well-functioning daily task execution.

Your leadership task

As head of inspections you are responsible that the groups tasks are solved efficiently and with high professional quality. You must set direction, prioritise and follow up and at the same time create good conditions for employeesulfilment of tasks, collaboration, well-being and development.

In Tilsynscenter Syd there are in total about 100 inspectors, divided into inspection groups based on company sectors.

You will become the manager of an inspection group with about 15-20 inspectors with different educational and professional backgrounds. The employees supervise the occupational environment at Danish workplaces and investigate workplace accidents. They are geographically distributed in the South and Southern Jutland and on Funen and largely plan their own work. This places special demands on your leadership. You must be able to be clear and present even if you do not meet the employees in person every day.

You must create coherence through ongoing dialogue, follow-up, meetings and professional coordination – both in person, by phone and virtually.

You will become part of Tilsynscenter Syds leadership team, which consists of six heads of inspections and an inspection director. We work closely together and share responsibility for the center's operations, development and results. This means that you must take clear responsibility for your own group and actively contribute to prioritizations and solutions across the center. We continuously adjust the distribution of management tasks as the centers tasks and needs change. Your leadership role may therefore develop over time. This will always happen in dialogue with you and the entire leadership group.

Your key tasks will be to

• ensure a stable and effective supervision operation with high professional quality
• set direction, prioritise and follow up on the groups tasks and results
• lead and develop employees who largely work self-directed and at distance
• translate political decisions as well as the Danish Working Environment Authoritys goals and strategic priorities into daily task execution
• contribute to developing and implementing new workflows and initiatives
• create good collaborative relationships within the group, across the center and with relevant internal and external partners.

The leader we are seeking

You are a clear and cohesive leader who can create followership and has the courage to make decisions. You can set direction, prioritise and follow up – even when tasks, considerations and expectations pull in different directions. You have an eye for both operations, professional quality and the employees well-being and development.

You have experience working in a politically led organization and understand the special frameworks that come with it. You can translate political decisions and strategic priorities into concrete task execution and communicate clearly about both background, direction and practical consequences.

You are inclusive and collaborative in your leadership and able to leverage your employees different competencies. You can create coherence and community, even when employees work at distance, and you contribute actively and loyally to the shared leadership of the center.

In addition, we envisage that you

• have a relevant academic education or equivalent and experience with people management
• have professional interest in and preferably insight into occupational safety and authority exercised
• can maintain an overview of resources, operations and complex tasks
• can delegate and give employees a clear responsibility
• have integrity, good judgment and a high personal ethics
• contribute actively, constructively, engaged and openly to collaboration in a peer leadership group
• have strong collaboration skills and can build good relationships internally and externally.

Salary and employment terms

The position is full-time. We would like you to start on January 1, 2027.

You will be employed on contractual terms with compensation in salary grade 1 (pay scale 37), and the appointment is on a five-year fixed-term. There is an availability allowance attached to the position, and there is an option to negotiate a qualification allowance. The appointment is in accordance with the framework agreement on contractual appointment of managers in the state.

It is a prerequisite for employment that you can obtain a security clearance and subsequently maintain the security clearance throughout your employment period.
