About the job
Internship in the Volunteer Area at SOS Children's Villages
Would you like to work on developing volunteering in practice?
SOS Children's Villages is seeking an intern for the volunteer area who will help strengthen our volunteer organization and the broad public engagement in our work in the world for children who have lost parental care.
Community grounding is important to achieve SOS Children's Villages' goals of increased engagement in the organization's work and purpose here at home. We therefore want to strengthen our volunteer organization and its local groups, which currently number 20 groups across Denmark.
At the same time, we also want to expand the volunteer profile and the range of activities volunteers can get involved in. So there is plenty to tackle as an intern in the volunteer area at SOS Children's Villages, and together we will determine what provides the greatest benefit for you and for us.
Your tasks may include, for example, to
- support our volunteer groups across the country – especially around recruiting volunteers and planning their external events.
- plan and run courses, workshops and regional meetings for volunteers.
- contribute to the start-up of new local groups in several places in the country.
- develop external communication materials from various volunteer events and raise awareness of upcoming events.
- contribute to the development of inspiration catalogs for volunteers (for example on event planning, external communication, HR tasks, etc.).
You are likely to...
- Experienced in volunteering in Denmark, e.g. as a lead volunteer in another civil society or member organization.
- A student in communication, media studies, social sciences, political science, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, innovation, project management or something similar.
- Curious about working to develop the organizational framework for volunteer environments.
- Have good communication skills and practical communication abilities and tools.
- An outgoing, engaged and social person who thrives in an organization with an informal tone and a spacious collegial atmosphere, where we are known for looking after each other.
- Willing to travel around Denmark (by arrangement and when it suits you).
You will report to our Volunteer Manager and will be part of the Communications & Partnerships department, which handles a wide range of communications tasks and is responsible for our information and engagement efforts towards school students and young people in education.
You will have collaboration interfaces across the whole organization, but will especially work with colleagues in our Service Department, which among other things helps with the practical operations related to the volunteer local groups around Denmark.
We offer
- A meaningful internship with a good opportunity to tailor the content to your interests and skills.
- The opportunity to get to know a civil society organization from the inside.
- Collaboration, responsibility and room to experiment and develop yourself.
We want to be a workplace with equal opportunities for all and actively work to promote diversity and inclusion.
All staff at SOS Children's Villages must comply with our Code of Conduct and Safeguarding guidelines (protection from abuse, exploitation and other unacceptable behavior) so that together we contribute to a safe and secure environment for the children, young people and families we work with.
The practicalities
Internship period runs from January/February 2027 to June 2027 (or by agreement)
Working hours: as a general rule 37 hours, but can be adjusted to study and work.

About SOS Children's Villages
SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest NGO working for the rights of children and young people to care and a dignified life. We have done this for 75 years; previously mainly in children's villages around the world, but today most often in foster families, kinship care, etc.
We work with families living under difficult conditions so they can create a foothold in life. If families have sufficient resources, children do best there.
We contribute to developing better local solutions and greater resilience. And we work to influence and strengthen authorities and stakeholders so they can better meet their obligations and responsibilities.
