About the job

Joannahuset seeks part-time staff for night, weekend and holiday shifts

Are you studying psychology, training to be a social worker, a pedagogue, or another relevant child-focused education – or do you already have a degree and would you like a student job where you gain experience meeting and advising children and young people in difficult and complex situations?

Joannahuset is Denmark's only crisis center for children and young people under 18. Here, children and youths can contact us around the clock if they are subjected to violence, abuse, or other neglect and need shelter, guidance, care or legal aid.

We are now seeking new part-time staff for our crisis center at night, on weekends and during holiday periods.

A study job close to children and young people

A shift at Joannahuset can look very different.

You may welcome a child who suddenly shows up at the door and cannot stay at home. You may sit in the kitchen with a young person who needs someone to talk to, help a child understand what may happen next in their contact with the municipality, or create safe surroundings for the children and youths who are already in shelter.

There are also shifts with more calm where the tasks revolve around daily life in the house: cooking, tidying up and other practical tasks.

Common to the work is that you must be able to meet children and young people calmly and curiously – even when their situation is complex, and you do not know in advance what the shift will bring.

Your tasks will include, among other things

  • receiving and showing care to children and young people who contact us
  • advising children and young people based on their perspectives and rights
  • facilitating dialogue and bridging to parents, networks, municipalities and other relevant actors
  • helping children and young people in connection with stays in shelter, including contact with parents and obtaining consent
  • being part of creating a safe everyday life in the house through e.g. cooking, tidying and lighter practical tasks.

Who are you?

We imagine in particular that you are studying psychology or training to become a social worker, pedagogue or another relevant child-focused education.

The most important is that you

  • have experience with children or young people
  • are curious about working with children and young people in crisis and complex life situations
  • can establish contact and create safety while keeping calm and overview
  • have a desire to work rights-based and take children and youths' own perspectives seriously
  • can work independently, but also know when you should seek sparring
  • can and want to work on awake night shifts
  • can see yourself at Joannahuset for at least a year.

What we offer

You will receive thorough onboarding and become part of a multidisciplinary house with among others social and legal staff. There is room for professional sparring and reflection, and you will receive supervision

Although you will have responsibility, you will not be alone with difficult professional assessments. On night shifts there is always a full-time back-up supervisor you can contact.

For you who, for example, study psychology, the job provides concrete experience with relationship work, crisis reactions and conversations with children and young people – while you also learn to work across social, legal and authorities’ perspectives.

About the position

You must be able to work 12–16 hours per week and, as a rule, take 1–2 night or weekend shifts of 8 hours per week.

The night shifts are awake shifts. This means that you are awake and working for the entire shift.

In addition, you must be able to take shifts during holiday periods and in case of illness. We expect that you can see yourself in the job for at least one year.

Joannahuset is located at Kong Georgs Vej 21, 2000 Frederiksberg.
