About the job

Can you make legal decisions with great significance for children and parents? Do you want to help solve an important societal task while being challenged and developed as a lawyer?

We are looking for three lawyers for our office in Aarhus.

Family Office

In the Family Office we help separated families strengthen the parents' collaboration regarding the child through a mentalizing and conflict-handling approach, where the child's welfare is at the center. Our tasks include meetings with parents and children about custody, residence and visitation, as well as making decisions. In addition, we have various open services primarily handled by our child-expert colleagues.

Your tasks

The everyday life is a mix of meetings with parents and written case processing. The parents' and children's situation is often characterized by social problems and conflict. You must therefore be good at guiding about rules and practices at eye level and able to handle conflict-filled situations. Both in meetings and on the phone.

Some of your concrete tasks will be to

  • hold cross-disciplinary meetings with parents who disagree about matters concerning their children
  • prepare meeting notes
  • spar with the cross-disciplinary team
  • conduct written case processing and make temporary and final decisions
  • prepare case presentations for submission to Family Court

The team has responsibility for case processing from start to finish

We work in self-organizing teams, which are composed cross-disciplinary of lawyers, child-expert advisors and administrative staff. The cross-disciplinary team plans the course of each case based on the concrete family’s needs and with a focus on the child’s best interests. The team has a shared responsibility for the cases from start to finish. It is therefore important that you are good at collaborating and have a desire to work cross-disciplinary and be a good sparring partner for your colleagues, with whom you have close collaboration.

Based on lean principles we work to improve our case processes and workflows. The goal is to ensure professionally relevant processes, where the consideration of the child and the child’s welfare is put first, and the case processing is arranged so families do not experience unnecessary waiting time. We value your opinion and involve you in improving our processes and workflows. Your contribution has direct influence on both the office’s operations and your team’s development.

Focus on quality and collaboration

To succeed in the job you must be a skilled lawyer who can work in a small cross-disciplinary team in connection with concrete cases, but at least as important to participate in and take responsibility in the self-organizing team you are assigned to.

It is important that you as a meeting leader can be constructive in situations characterized by emotions, crisis reactions and sometimes high conflict levels. Finally, you must be strong in written legal work.

Therefore it is important that you

  • can deliver high-quality case processing with a focus on the citizen
  • can work efficiently and are good at prioritizing, so we can help as many families as possible
  • are ready to take part in optimizing and developing our processes
  • can collaborate in a team with openness and constructiveness and also create strong relationships with colleagues
  • can handle conflict situations and secure the legal method and quality in the meeting with the parents in situations characterized by emotions, crisis reactions and sometimes high conflict levels
  • can navigate a changing everyday life, where prioritization is important and where what you thought was most important today is not necessarily the most important tomorrow
  • have knowledge of family law or the social sector or wish to acquire knowledge in the area (we arrange a further tailored training program for you)
  • have good IT skills

We offer

  • An opportunity to use yourself and your legal competencies to make a difference for children and parents who are in a difficult situation.
  • You will have the opportunity to make temporary and final decisions with authority under the Parentship Act rules with great direct significance for children and families.
  • You will have a job where cross-disciplinary collaboration and teamwork are highly valued. You will receive ongoing supervision on the task.
  • In addition you will receive tailored training and ongoing sparring with skilled, engaged and helpful colleagues.

You will have a workplace where we value humor and maintain an informal tone. We focus on a good working environment and strive for a healthy work-life balance as part of our culture.
