Senior consultant with a special function in prostate cancer

Oncology Department, Vejle Hospital – The Patients' Cancer Hospital

An attractive and demanding position as chief physician is available for the right candidate for appointment on January 1, 2027 or by agreement. Vejle Hospital is the Patients' Cancer Hospital, and the applicant must master a patient-centered approach, have an eye for relatives, and contribute to providing treatment in a professional manner and at the highest level according to national and international standards. Areas of work and role

The position includes clinical functions within primarily medical treatment of prostate cancer, but all aspects of oncological treatment of prostate cancer must be able to be handled. Additionally, the applicant must master the management of acute oncological conditions for all cancer diseases as well as management of complications and side effects of oncological treatment.

As the chief physician in the department, you are a role model for all other staff and must contribute to well-being, development, research, education and high clinical quality.

The chief physician position is to be filled with a specialist in clinical oncology. Emphasis is placed on clinical experience with the patient group and relevant continuing education. Research experience and documentation of the same will be central to the department's research-based approach to clinical problems, just as competencies in communication and collaboration are important. There must be documented training in leadership and the Southern Denmark Improvement Model – or the applicant must be prepared to acquire these competencies.

The department consists of

• A ward with 15 oncological beds for patients with complications of cancer treatment
• Palliative care unit with home visits and internal functions as well as a ward with 10 palliative beds
• A radiotherapy department with five linear accelerators (approximately 28,500 radiation treatments annually)
• An outpatient clinic with about 35,000 visits annually
• A clinical research unit with 11 project nurses, research secretaries and a statistician
• Patient hotel

The Oncology Department has about 300 employees and provides non-surgical cancer treatment for patients in the area. The hospital has been designated as a special hospital with a particular focus on cancer treatment. The hospital has repeatedly been named the country's best cancer hospital.

In terms of staff, we are now staffed with 6 senior consultants, 10 consultants, 14 specialists, 4 assistant consultants, 15 resident doctors and a chief physician.

The department participates in specialist training in clinical oncology with both introductory positions and main training programs, just as medical students and pharmacy students are on placement.

The department has considerable research activity. The conditions are favorable for investigator-initiated research, implementation research, laboratory-based studies and industry-sponsored studies due to the large patient numbers and an efficient research unit. There are also two professors, 6 PhD students, 3 lecturers and postdoc candidates.

There is on-call duty for the department's chief physicians primarily for telephone inquiries 2-3 times per month.

Salary

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the collective agreement between Danish Regions and the Association of Specialists.
