About the job
Would you like to be a leader in the IT domain within a complex organization where new solutions are created based on the business needs and realized by an IT department that prioritizes time, quality and budget highly? Then you are probably the one CBS is looking for.
As Project Director you will here manage the leadership of the Projects Unit's highly engaged, approachable and professional employees (currently 13 in total, most of them project managers).
In addition to this important leadership role, you will be responsible for both improving methods for effective and business-oriented project delivery in collaboration with the central Process, Project and Change Unit and for maintaining and expanding the close relationships across CBS, across the IT department and with the other universities in Denmark. Our project model is based on Prince2 and fits well with government models and methodologies, and we use both waterfall and agile methods.
The IT department's leadership team is an important anchor in the Project Director’s work; we place great emphasis on close interaction and on the fact that we work and care about cross-cutting priorities and issues. In particular the Projects Unit and the Project Director naturally work across teams and often experience first-hand the challenges and opportunities that arise.
The Projects Unit handles leadership and governance related to projects, as well as outreach work via the Business Partner function, test coordination, system management and shared secretarial tasks for the IT department. Demand for projects and their resources is greater than the supply, and our task is to manage this cross-pressure in a prudent and transparent manner.
In addition to the Projects Unit, CBS’s IT department consists of the units System Integration, Operations, Architecture and Support. We have in total about 100 permanent employees and 25 student assistants. We place a high value on cross-department collaboration and acknowledge that it is a difficult task across roles, personalities, professionalism and physical location on CBS’s campus.
The IT department focuses on consolidating, standardizing and optimizing IT services and processes. In many areas we are a mature organization, and the position as Project Director is central to developing us to the next step up the maturity ladder – where we become even better in our dialogue with the business and in prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and running system lifecycles.
Responsibilities in the role
You will have a versatile day as Project Director – the most important tasks are to be
- A skilled leader for our project managers – you can provide autonomous and dedicated employees with the professional and developmental sparring they need to become even better. You are attentive to different needs (e.g., among less experienced colleagues) and you are not afraid to engage in in-depth, inclusive dialogues when employees for example have problems with budgets or project deliveries from their colleagues.
- To be a perspective-giving part of an engaged leadership team – you take on shared responsibility for both development and operation of the entire IT department.
- Responsible for resource and capacity management in a complex IT portfolio, you create an overview of hours and capacity and engage in the difficult prioritization dialogues.
Experience, qualifications, personal skills
We place high value on you
- Have documented, good experience as a leader in creating well-being, motivation and forward movement.
- Are fully proficient in Prince2 and agile methodologies – and can use the framework tools pragmatically in the CBS context.
- Are good at collaboration – and getting people around you to collaborate despite their differences. You are proactive and network-building and have strong communication skills, including written and English.
- Are able to close as effectively as you generate new ideas.
- Have experience with IT projects with very diverse stakeholders, e.g., developers and end users.
- Are keen on – and experienced with – working in a public political organization with many agendas.
We do not have specific requirements or expectations regarding your educational or other background – we value diversity in our staff and acknowledge that it benefits CBS and task execution. CBS and the IT department are spread across Frederiksberg; this places special demands on your ability and willingness to go to campus and meet partners and colleagues.
We offer
A leadership position with ample room to shape both your own daily life and the development of work methods, processes and IT services. A calm atmosphere, a good environment and a university setting where there is always room for critically discussing arguments. A leadership position with flexible working hours and great opportunity for professional and personal development together with a well-functioning leadership team and a good Projects Unit.
Salary and terms of employment
Hiring and remuneration are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant organization, with a grade and pay dependent on qualifications and experience. At the time of hire there will be an opportunity to negotiate personal allowances. The appointment is 37 hours per week.
Recruitment process
