About the job

Do you love supporting soldiers and their families before, during and after deployment? Can you see yourself in a diverse and challenging day-to-day with a wealth of exciting tasks? Then we might just be looking for you in the International Operations section.

About us

You will be employed in the International Operations section, which today consists of 16 colleagues, of whom 2 work in Slagelse. The other colleagues in the section are distributed in Aalborg, Karup, Fredericia, Ringsted, Copenhagen and Høvelte.

The section is part of the Military Psychological Department in the Veterans Centre, with a total of around 50 colleagues, of whom 30 are psychologists. The workplace is characterized by high professionalism and expertise, many exciting tasks and unique experiences. We value a learning environment and are happy to challenge conventional thinking with new research or development projects.

We work with both prevention and treatment, and therefore everyday life is rarely the same. We work preventively through, among other things, teaching soldiers, site visits during deployment and via mandatory conversations with all deployed soldiers after returning home. We handle the subsequent treatment of soldiers and relatives who need support after deployment has ended.

The section also assigns psychologists to crisis-response tasks in connection with international operations.

About the position

You join a well-functioning, capable team, which works with dedication and purpose within an area with many stakeholders and great societal and political attention.

Your tasks will predominantly be

  • Teaching soldiers stress management before deployment
  • Teaching future leaders on the Defence’s training programs (sergeant schools and officer schools)
  • Teaching in Military Mental Training
  • Assessment (evaluation) of veterans, soldiers and relatives
  • Individual, couple and group therapy
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration on client pathways with other professionals in the Veterans Centre (social workers, outreach counselors, employment counselors, child counselors and physiotherapists)
  • Counselling via the day-shift telephone
  • Join the international crisis preparedness

We ensure a thorough introduction to and training in the job, so you become familiar with the tasks. The team in Slagelse/Ringsted is an experienced team, both mono- and interdisciplinary, that provides good sparring and professional development.

We hold ongoing courses and offer systematic and regular supervision.

We also offer the possibility of flexible scheduling of your working hours and home-based work to a certain extent. Your place of employment is at the Veterans Centre, Antvorskov Barracks in Slagelse, but there will be considerable travel activity in connection with task execution and training activities.

About you

You are a trained psychologist (cand.psych.) with authorization under the old scheme. You thrive working with evidence-based methods primarily within a cognitive framework, and you have the desire and aptitude to teach.

You apply your psychology expertise to both our prevention efforts and the treatment of soldiers, veterans and relatives. Experience with crisis psychology work is an advantage, but not a requirement.

As a person you are open and independent, with a desire to engage in daily collaboration with both your own and other professional groups.

You thrive in an environment with many different tasks, all of which are solved where the soldiers are serving. You should expect a certain amount of travel, and participation in our international readiness means that in special incidents abroad, you must be ready to deploy and carry out a crisis-psychology intervention together with experienced colleagues.

We set requirements for your flexibility and your skills, but through dialogue and planning there will be a focus on maintaining a good balance between your work and private life.

Terms of employment

The employment is governed by the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

The salary is seniority-based, includes a centrally negotiated allowance, an authorization allowance, and the possibility to negotiate a personal qualification allowance. The position includes an employer-funded pension scheme at 18.07%.

The position is a full-time role of 37 hours per week, and the appointment is January 1, 2027.

As an employee in the Danish Armed Forces you are subject to certain special terms. Among other things you must be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

As an employee you have a duty to perform service outside the country, including units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-building, humanitarian, and other similar operations.

Special conditions

Please note that there are physical and functional health requirements related to the position, and that there is a requirement that you can be deployed to international missions. This means that employment is conditional on passing an assessment at the Selection in the Personnel Command. The assessment consists of a physical test, a health evaluation and a mental resilience assessment.

The date of the assessment will be communicated after the interviews and must be carried out and clarified before we commence salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements on forsvaret.dk
