About the job

FE seeks section heads for a number of newly established sections under the SIGINT area (electronic collection)

Can you engage your staff to realize the department's and the section's goals and thereby achieve the results that support FE as a whole - then we have a vacancy for you as a section head in our SIGINT collection department.

You will face challenges and have room to develop

In FE we have a common management framework with related role and competence descriptions. As a manager you must be able to balance between strategic management vs. operational management, relational leadership vs. professional leadership, and cross-functional leadership vs. line management.

FE has four leadership values that you must support in your daily work

  • We work as one FE
  • We challenge and develop ourselves
  • We take responsibility and execute
  • We transform FE

You will join a team of skilled and dedicated managers, all of whom are passionate about solving the department's tasks. The department has a strong innovative profile, which among other things is expressed in a strong focus on competence development, updating and further development of new capacities, and not least further development of collaboration with the Armed Forces.

The department is organized into a number of sections as well as cross-cutting team structures, so that we can dynamically and flexibly participate in the collaboration around task solving, both within the department and with other parts of FE.

The daily management task will be diverse with a core of longer-term operational focus areas that require cross-disciplinary overview and nuanced leadership. The employees in the section are highly specialized with different professional backgrounds, e.g. engineers, data scientists, data analysts and the like, all with strong engagement and operational focus.

In close collaboration with current and future employees, you must be able to retain, develop and reimagine FE’s SIGINT capabilities, including ensuring that collection remains relevant, timely and covers FE’s and the Armed Forces’ needs. We can therefore guarantee you will have an exciting everyday life in a department where two days rarely look the same.

There will be travel associated with the position, both in connection with cooperation with foreign partners and between FE locations in Denmark, as some employees may be physically located in the Copenhagen area and others in Northern Jutland.

Your main tasks include, among others

  • Be the daily leader of the section
  • Set direction and coordinate efforts so that agreed goals are executed
  • Develop and retain your employees
  • Develop the section as a whole
  • Create a secure framework for your employees
  • Budget and report on the section's activities

You and your background are important

You have a burning desire to develop yourself and your leadership potential. In addition, the evaluation will place emphasis on the qualifications listed below.

Professional qualifications

  • Advanced academic education, an officer from the Armed Forces or another relevant background, preferably with a technical or operational background
  • Documented leadership experience or potential
  • A high degree of technical knowledge and data understanding, preferably documented IT experience
  • Knowledge of the Armed Forces’ structure and internal processes
  • Good language skills, spoken and written, including English at a negotiation level

Personal qualifications

  • Ability to achieve business understanding at a high level
  • Results-oriented, as well as curious and proactive mentality
  • Approachable and collaborative
  • Well-developed social skills and comfortable with leading, sparring and coaching
  • Possess strong communication skills and be well articulated both in writing and orally
  • Team player who can see across and wider than own section and department

Your new workplace

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (FE) is Denmark’s foreign intelligence service and works – covertly and openly – to protect Denmark and Danish interests in a changing world.

We are not alone in protecting Denmark, but we are the only authority that has been mandated to make use of highly specialized resources to uncover what other states and foreign actors are trying to keep secret. It makes sense for us to contribute to peace, safety and security for Danes, both in the analogue and digital world, and we do so by uncovering, assessing, advising on and countering both current threats and threats under development.

We value the strength of our diversity with deep specializations and we are a very special and operation-oriented knowledge organization, which has many different tasks, but all share the knowledge base that our intelligence work creates.

Employment terms

Your salary package depends on your qualifications, and the position can be filled either by civilian or military appointment.

Civilian

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant professional organization, depending on your educational background. In addition, you have the opportunity to negotiate a salary supplement based on qualifications. The average working time is 37 hours per week including paid lunch break. The position includes a pension scheme paid by FE.

Military

The position is filled under a protocol dated 23 May 2019 to the State Academic Employees’ Agreement for officers under the Ministry of Defence. The position is placed in pay grade 5, which includes majors and captain-guardians. Experienced captains/lieutenants can apply for the position and will be hired on a training contract, where appointment can take place after completion of the training contract.

If you are already employed in the Ministry of Defence’s Group, you will continue to be employed under the applicable agreements between the Defence HR Agency and the Danish Officers’ Association regarding pay and terms of employment for civil service or unionized officers in the Defence.

The appointment is conditional on you passing the Defence’s physical basic requirements and being deemed fully fit for deployment in international operations by health and dental assessments.

As an employee you have a duty to perform service outside the country’s borders, including in units in international operations with a view to involvement in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.

If you are notified for international operations you must indicate this in your application.

For civilian and military

As an employee in the Defence Ministry’s group you are subject to certain special conditions. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance during the entire employment process. As in the rest of the armed forces you have a duty to short-term deployment abroad.

Tests will be conducted in connection with this recruitment.

How to apply for the position

You must send your application and CV via the job advertisement, no later than 16 November 2026.

We aim for recruitment as soon as possible and will process applications continuously up to the application deadline.

We encourage all interested to apply regardless of personal background.
