About the job
We are expanding our leadership team and are looking for an educational leader who wants to take responsibility, set direction and be close to everyday life in the middle grades. You will be part of a leadership team where we can challenge each other professionally, laugh together and pull together. You will have skilled colleagues around you, lots of opportunities for development, and not least happy children who will ensure that the days are not completely the same.
Solbjerg School
Solbjerg School, with its approximately 920 pupils and 85 staff, is in many ways Aarhus’s largest rural school. We have a strong local anchoring, where many families have multiple generations linked to the school, and where children, parents and staff know each other.
We have active parents who like to contribute, and a strong collaboration with the local association life and other actors in Solbjerg. At the same time, we are a school in development, working to strengthen our shared identity and traditions as the local community grows. Solbjerg’s library lies, for example, on the school grounds, making it a natural part of children's and young people's everyday life even outside school hours.
At Solbjerg School you will meet professional and deeply engaged teachers and pedagogues who collaborate across departments and take joint responsibility for students’ learning and wellbeing. We believe in a broad primary school where there is room for everyone, and where diversity is a natural part of the community.
We are focused on developing teaching and pedagogical practice, among other things through co-teaching and strengthened interaction with the school’s advisors. Our ambition is to combine high professionalism and wellbeing, so that both children and adults experience opportunities to learn and develop.
You will become part of an experienced leadership team consisting of the head teacher, three pedagogical leaders and a leisure-time pedagogical leader. We build our collaboration on trust, helpfulness and a common understanding of the core task: to create the best possible conditions for the children and to support the staff. We stand together, reach out to each other and work closely with practice when needed. Here there is room for both professional challenges, open dialogue and a good laugh. We place emphasis on being clear role models for the collaboration culture we want at the school.
A leadership role close to the students, the staff and everyday life
As the pedagogical leader for the middle grades you will be the closest supervisor for the department’s teachers and will also have the professional leadership responsibility for the school’s wellbeing team with three staff. You will play a central role in supporting staff in everyday life through daily sparring and by being close to teaching and the pedagogical discussions in the year-group teams. Naturally, you will look into working with broader child communities in the middle grades.
You will be responsible for the collaboration with the club and an important coordinating and facilitating role in collaboration with external partners (e.g., PPR, subject consultant, MSB and others). You will facilitate network meetings and ensure constructive collaboration with parents and other professional specialists. If you have an interest in planning, there will also be opportunities to put these skills into play.
You get a good start – and time to land in the task
We do not expect you to come in the door with all the solutions. On the contrary, it is important to us that at the beginning you take time to get to know the school, the children, the staff and the parents. You should experience practice, participate in team meetings and build the relationships that are the foundation of your leadership. You will share an office with the upper-secondary head teacher, so you have a leadership colleague right beside you and therefore good opportunities for sparring in everyday life.
We believe that strong leadership begins in good relationships, and that followership is not something you get with the job title, but something we build together.
Who are you?
We imagine that you are a trained teacher with a solid pedagogical and didactic foundation that you can actively bring into play in daily sparring with the staff. You have a sense of how we create participation opportunities for all children, and you are focused on developing learning environments and broader child communities. Perhaps you have experience with working on wellbeing and interdisciplinary actions. You are also a skilled meeting facilitator who can facilitate collaboration and create direction with both staff, parents and external partners.
As a person you are strong in relationships and meet others with curiosity and an appreciative approach. You are fundamentally calm, even when collaboration becomes complex, or in difficult conversations with parents or staff.
You are curious about your own leadership practice and would like to develop in the role of leader. You dare to stand by your mistakes and see them as an opportunity to learn and become better.
Summarised in five criteria we would like you to match
Relationally strong . You manage to create trusting relationships and good collaborations with staff, children and parents.
Clear and appreciative communication. You communicate clearly and respectfully and manage to meet others with attentiveness and an appreciative approach.
Structure and coordination. You create overview, prioritise tasks and ensure momentum in a varied everyday life.
Professionalism and sparring in everyday life. You have a solid didactic and pedagogical foundation, which you actively bring into sparring with the staff about their practice.
Collaboration with external parties. You can facilitate and coordinate constructive collaboration with parents and external partners around the children’s wellbeing and development.
Why you should choose us
With us you get a leadership position with real opportunity to influence the pedagogical development and make a difference for children and staff. You will have engaged leadership colleagues who support you, share experiences and give room for both professional sparring and humour. At the same time, we give you time to get to know the school, the children, the staff and the parents, so you can find your footing in the role and build the followership that is the basis for your leadership.
Requirements for the position
You have a teaching qualification, and you are pedagogically well-founded. You may have experience from your work as a wellbeing or professional advisor, coordinator or from trusted positions (AMR, TR). You may optionally have leadership experience or strong interest in taking on leadership tasks. If you do not have a leadership qualification, there will eventually be an opportunity to take a leadership qualification.
