About the job

We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about teaching children in the early years (1st – 5th grade) and helping to create a safe, curious and academically ambitious school day for children with diverse backgrounds.

We believe that the school is first and foremost a place where children learn. Therefore our core task is to create good teaching, strong academic communities and clear frameworks that give students the opportunity to develop themselves – academically, socially and personally.

The position is, as a rule, full-time and includes

  • Danish
  • Danish in small groups in the year group
  • Visual Arts
  • English
  • History
  • Class teacher responsibilities

If you can teach Mathematics and/or Music, that would be an extra gift.

Who we hope you are

We are looking for a skilled teacher in practice. Someone who

  • Wants to teach in the early years and create good, clear learning environments.
  • Has strong academic and didactic competencies – particularly in Danish.
  • Can create varied teaching with clear boundaries and high, realistic expectations for the students.
  • Can stand firm and be persistent, even when something becomes difficult.
  • Sees the relationship with the students as an important part of teaching – but understands that a good relationship is not an end in itself. It should support the students’ learning and development.
  • Has a mindset that children are different, without it meaning that everyone should be met in exactly the same way.

A school where we take the task seriously

At NBS we work with children who have different life circumstances and prerequisites. That places demands on us as professionals.

We believe that children generally want to succeed and be part of the community. Our task is to create the framework, teaching and communities where they have the opportunity to do that.

That also means that we cannot offer the same to everyone or solve all challenges around a child. The school can and should do a lot – but the school cannot do everything. We prioritise the core task and work so that pupils experience both support, clarity and appropriate demands.

In the early years it requires adults who can create structure, recognisability and security, while at the same time the teaching is lively, academically ambitious and adapted to the pupil group you are working with.

We work with PALS, where responsibility, care and respect are things we practice in practice – also with the youngest.

Close follow-up and honest expectation alignment

We know that the right match is decisive – for you, the students and the school. Therefore you will be closely supported at the start.

You will receive

  • A mentor who knows the school’s daily life and pupil group.
  • Ongoing sparring and dialogue with your nearest supervisor.
  • Clear expectations and honest feedback so we can together ensure that the task and the framework are right.

Professionalism with us

We expect you to

  • Plan and implement teaching with a view to academic progression and the students’ opportunities to participate.
  • Create clear classroom management with calm, structure and predictability.
  • Have high, but realistic expectations of the students and stand firm, even when learning requires perseverance.
  • Actively work with students’ participation in teaching and the community.
  • See creative, practical and movement-based learning forms as part of varied teaching.
  • Work closely with colleagues on teaching and students’ schooling.
  • See parents as important partners and communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Come consistently and on time – because relationships, teaching and security are built in everyday life.

About NBS

The diversity among our students is large – and it is part of our professional task, not a condition we ignore.
