About the job

Drones are changing the modern battlefield at a pace rarely seen before. It requires that we plan wisely, collaborate closely with our international partners and give the industry a clear picture of what the Armed Forces need. That is exactly what our new team must ensure.

We are therefore looking for three senior officers , who together with a new team leader and an IT and communications officer will build the team from the ground up. You start at the same time, and you will therefore have real influence on how we structure tasks, workflows and collaboration.

About us

In FMI's UAS and Counter‑UAS business area we buy, implement, update and operate drones for the entire Armed Forces – from small handheld systems to larger tactical surveillance drones. We work closely with the Armed Forces' users, industry and international partners including NATO, NORDEFCO and EDA. Development is rapid, and our own organization is evolving in step with both technology and the size of our task portfolio.

The new team will handle the cross-cutting coordination of the business area: the work on the Armed Forces drone plan, the case handling of our international drone collaborations and the development of our internal IT support, including management information. The team leader is responsible for daily task management, while the business area’s deputy commander has personnel responsibility. We place emphasis on well-being, professional development and on making it enjoyable to come to work.

You should expect travel activity, primarily to international meetings as well as visits to suppliers and Armed Forces units.

About the positions

The three positions have the same task portfolio, and you will solve the tasks together. We expect that each of you will get a primary area of responsibility – e.g., the drone plan or selected international collaborations – based on your experience and interests, but that you know each other’s cases well enough to cover for each other.

You will, among other things, come to

  • coordinate and handle the business area’s contribution to the Armed Forces drone plan – from planning and prioritization to follow-up on progress
  • contribute to creating predictability for the drone industry through clear and timely communication about the Armed Forces' plans and needs
  • coordinate and handle our material-domain international collaborations in NATO, NORDEFCO and EDA – from meeting preparation and Danish positions to minutes and follow-up on agreements
  • draft notes, decision briefs and briefings to the management in the business area and higher up in the FMI leadership
  • help define what management information we need, and use the solutions developed by the team’s IT and communications officer to give the leadership a stronger basis for decision-making

You do not need to be a technician. Engineers and project managers in our technical sections handle the technical side – your strengths are overview, good case handling and the ability to get many actors to pull in the same direction.

How we work

In FMI, leadership is not reserved for managers – it is everyone's responsibility. Our work is based on FMI's leadership foundation, where the task is at the center. For you, that means you will have a clear understanding of purpose and framework, and that we trust you to act independently within them. We reward initiative and the courage to act, we give each other honest feedback, and we learn quickly from what does not work. High tempo and good governance are not contradictions for us – and as part of a new team you will have good opportunities to influence how we make them go hand in hand.

About you

You have a relevant master's degree – e.g., in political science, law, business administration, international politics or trade and logistics.

We envision that you

  • have experience with case handling and coordination from a public authority, an international organization or similar – if you are a recent graduate with relevant student job or internship, we would also like to hear from you
  • write clearly and precisely in both Danish and English and are comfortable assisting your managers when they represent Denmark in international meetings
  • create an overview, can keep many balls in the air and ensure that things come to fruition
  • are curious and want to immerse yourself in a technical and security-political area in rapid development
  • thrive on cross-functional collaboration – with soldiers, engineers, lawyers, suppliers and international colleagues
  • are eager to help build a new team and take ownership of common solutions

Familiarity with the Armed Forces, drones, public procurement or international defense cooperation is an advantage but not a requirement. The most important thing is that you want to learn the area.

Terms of employment

Employment will be in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of supplements. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence's area you are subject to special terms. You must, among other things, be security-cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment.

You, as an employee, have a duty to perform service outside the country’s borders, including at units in international operations with a view to participation in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-enforcing, humanitarian and other similar operations.

Contact and application

If you want to hear more about the positions, you are welcome to contact deputy head Johan at phone 4013 3135.

If you have questions about salary and employment terms, you are welcome to contact the Personnel Command, HR consultant Birgit Jepsen at phone 3266 5811.
