About the job

Youth Deacon Trainee in Kolding

Are you passionate about diaconal work among youth and students? Do you want to help create inclusive communities and meeting places in one of the country’s largest deaneries? Then Kolding Deanery is seeking a smiling, present, and action-oriented youth deacon trainee in a newly established 19-hour-per-week position on average.

Kolding has many educational institutions, and the deanery aims to strengthen contact with young people — especially students — through a collaboration between a student pastor (quota 50) and a youth deacon trainee (19 hours per week). The partnership has a clear diaconal focus aimed at the needs of the young.

The student pastor, Cæcilie Østergaard Knudstorp, took up the position in spring 2026 and also serves as parish priest in Vonsild Church in a quota 50 position.

The target group is young people aged approximately 16 to 30. A clear regulation for the position will be developed.

Kolding Deanery is one of the country’s largest deaneries with solid finances and a well-functioning collaboration between parishes.

Youth and Student Work in Kolding

Youth and student work takes place in a balanced partnership between the student pastor and the youth deacon trainee, where you each contribute with different tasks and competencies.

Our goals for the work are

  • That young people meet with a view of humanity marked by compassion and love.
  • That young people feel that their value lies in who they are – not in what they do.
  • That young people find free space and community.
  • That young people are offered safe resource persons they can talk to about faith, existential questions and challenges in adolescence (e.g., loneliness, identity and grief).
  • That the work is visible and welcoming and primarily meets young people at educational institutions in Kolding.
  • That the work has a clear diaconal aim and creates inclusive communities and safe meeting rooms for young people and students.

The student pastor’s liturgical base is the night church, held once a month at Saint Nicolai Church in collaboration with the Kolding Night Church volunteers and the youth deacon trainee.

The Youth Deacon Trainee in Kolding

We want you, as a youth deacon trainee, to have a churchly interest and to meet young people openly and without prejudice — regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, etc. The position also requires that you can maintain confidentiality.

You have a relevant education and knowledge of and experience with young target groups. We offer relevant further training and the possibility of participation in professional networks.

The collaboration with the student pastor is equal and characterized by co-creation, and at the same time you will have independent tasks, e.g.:

  • Talk with young people at eye level about both big and small topics.
  • Create inclusive communities and meeting rooms for young people in close cooperation with the student pastor.
  • Co-responsible for the night church.
  • Handle communication, social media, PR and practical tasks.
  • Co-create with young volunteers and build a working group consisting of young people.
  • Build a bridge between young people and the Church of Denmark in Kolding Deanery.
  • Prepare budget and accounts for the steering group’s approval and manage the finances in cooperation with the student pastor.
  • Participate in relevant courses and networks for professional development.

There is a steering group that acts as a sounding board and link between the work and the deanery’s congregations and ensures a common understanding of purpose and meaning.

The pastor is the immediate supervisor regarding employment matters, staff appraisals (MUS), APV, etc.

You will have an office in the Sankt Nicolai Church parsonage, which includes a kitchen, consultation room and meeting rooms — and which also serves as a common meeting place and workplace for the collaboration between you and the student pastor.[Parish name] is characterized by [short description of the parish, church and workplace].
