About the job

Would you like to use your veterinary professional knowledge in a diverse authority role with variation in tasks? At the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration we are looking for a veterinarian who wants to work with export control, control of disease prevention and medication handling in cattle and pig herds, as well as professional administrative tasks. You will become part of a strong professional environment where you will have the opportunity to work with different animal areas.

A position with professional breadth and societal significance

You will become part of VeterinærNord, which is one of the three field units of the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, where we help support the export of animals and animal by-products, ensure high veterinary professionalism and solve a number of authority tasks for the benefit of citizens, businesses and society. As a veterinarian you will have a varied day-to-day with control and office-based tasks.

Diverse tasks within export, control and guidance

The position combines tasks at companies and herds with administrative tasks including certification, guidance and case processing. It provides a varied daily life with great professional breadth and opportunities to work with both practical and administrative tasks.

Your tasks will include, among other things

  • Export control of live animals, including assessment of transport suitability and issuance of export certificates
  • Ante mortem control at emergency and planned slaughtering on the farm
  • Creation and approval of export quarantines and issuance of certificates for export of animals and breeding material as well as tasks related to export of fish
  • Assistance and guidance to pet owners in connection with travel with pets
  • Control and guidance tasks related to medication handling and disease prevention in livestock herds
  • Professional sparring and guidance of colleagues on third-country exports
  • Responses to inquiries from businesses, citizens and partners

There will be opportunities to work with several animal species and different professional areas. A large part of the tasks will, however, relate to pigs and cattle.

The work alternates between administrative tasks and control tasks across the Central and Northern Denmark. You will therefore experience a combination of days visiting companies and herds and days at the office. Since the tasks are performed across Central and Northern Denmark, a considerable amount of driving in connection with the job should be expected .

We prioritise thorough onboarding so that you become familiar with the tasks and gain a good understanding of both the organisation and your new colleagues. You will be assigned a mentor.

We are seeking a veterinarian with professional curiosity and good collaboration skills

To be considered for the position, it is a must that you

  • Have Danish authorization as a veterinarian
  • Have a Category B driving license
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in Danish, both verbally and in writing
  • Work independently and in a structured manner
  • Have good collaboration skills and contribute positively to joint task solving
  • Thrive with varied tasks and changing workdays
  • Have good IT skills

In addition, you are motivated by applying your expertise in a government role where professional assessments, guidance and collaboration are an important part of everyday life.

Interest in pig production, the export area, veterinary authority tasks, medication handling or disease control will be an advantage, but we primarily value your motivation, professional curiosity and desire to learn new things.

You will receive thorough training and ongoing support from experienced colleagues, so we encourage both experienced and newly graduated veterinarians to apply for the position.

A strong professional community with freedom and flexibility

VeterinærNord is a unit with approximately 80 employees, solving a broad range of veterinary authority tasks. The unit is organised into a number of co-governing teams with skilled and dedicated colleagues, where a large portion of tasks are solved independently in connection with control tasks. Therefore, we are often on the move individually, but we place a high priority on cooperation and professional sparring.

Our teams meet in person about every six weeks, where we share experiences, discuss professional topics and strengthen collaboration. In daily work we are in regular contact with each other about specific cases and professional questions, so you are never alone with the tasks.

We offer an open and informal tone in a flexible work environment, where you have great opportunities to influence your own daily life. At the same time you get good opportunities for professional development through collaboration with experienced colleagues and ongoing skills development.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment is made under the currently applicable collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of AC organisations – including the Danish Veterinary Association.

The position is, as a rule, a full-time position with an average of 37 hours per week, with work place in Herning or Aalborg, and there is the possibility of a starting point from Aarhus or Viborg.

The starting date is 01-01-2027.
