About the job

A full-time 37-hour position as a bioanalyst for the department's molecular pathology laboratory at Clinical Pathology, Vejle Hospital, is available for filling from 01-01-2027 or by agreement. Vejle Hospital is part of Sygehus Lillebælt and functions as a modern, multidisciplinary hospital with a strong profile in cancer treatment and diagnostics, all with the patient at the center.

Clinical Pathology plays a central and important role as the hospital's diagnostic unit, as we provide the diagnoses that form the basis for individualized treatment on tissues and cells. Pathology is today a fully integrated part of cancer investigations and thus a crucial link in the entire patient pathway — from biopsy to treatment choice.

The department's core tasks range from classical microscopic diagnostics (tissue and cellular examinations) to high-tech molecular pathology with NGS analyzes, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, digital pathology and cytology with AI-based image analysis.

The daily routine work as a molecular pathology bioanalyst will take place in close collaboration and dialogue with the laboratory's four other bioanalysts, the department's physicians and clinical academics, secretaries and the other colleagues in the department. We handle annually 600+ NGS analyses of varying complexity and a large number of project samples in collaboration with, among others, the Danish Cancer Society (Kræftens Bekæmpelse).

The molecular pathology laboratory at Clinical Pathology is housed in the laboratory building and has a range of modern and high-tech equipment including NGS. We are in the process of upgrading our equipment and will work on implementing new equipment during both 2027 and 2028. In addition, the laboratory also participates in research and development tasks.

The department places a strong focus on workload-relieving initiatives using automation and digitalization solutions, in which you as an employee will be able to participate.

As a molecular pathology bioanalyst, your daily operational tasks include

  • Handling paraffin-embedded tissue and cytology preparations including microtomy
  • Purification of RNA and DNA on a purification robot or manually
  • Determination of RNA and DNA concentration
  • Setup of PCR and qPCR

  • Participation in quality programs
  • Assessment of analysis results
  • LMD (laser microdissection) of tissue in collaboration with a physician
  • Procurement, unpacking and inventory management
  • Participation in training of bioanalysts students and junior doctors

We offer

  • Flexible agreement with the possibility to accrue and use flex hours
  • A workday in a variable pace with a patient-centered focus and the highest possible level of professional competence and service as core service
  • Close collaboration with both bioanalysts in the own team and the department's clinical academics
