As a senior bioanalyst you will play a central role in daily coordination, personnel management and development of our laboratory area. You will be close to both staff, operations and department management and will have the opportunity to shape our professional and organizational development.

The position requires solid knowledge of clinical-genetic laboratory workflows and an understanding of the interaction between the laboratory’s different functions, daily operations and clinical task solving. We place emphasis on your ability to translate your professional experience into practical leadership and to help ensure continuity, quality and development in a complex laboratory daily life.

Your tasks will include, among others

  • To support the daily laboratory operations and ensure appropriate work and resource planning with a view to staffing, competencies and tasks.
  • To be a professional sparring partner for staff, functional bioanalysts and the department management.
  • To contribute to ensuring high quality and patient safety through systematic quality work, including instructions, deviation handling and ongoing improvements.
  • To support competence development, onboarding and introduction of new staff.
  • To contribute to well-being, a good working environment and a well-functioning multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • To participate in and drive professional development and improvement projects, including implementation of new laboratory methods, technologies and automated workflows.
  • To create coherence between the department’s goals, daily practice and the organization’s overall strategies.

About the department

Clinical Genetics, Hospital Sønderjylland (Region of Southern Denmark), together with Odense University Hospital, carries out genetic assessment and counseling in the Region of Southern Denmark.

The department has about 60 employees and consists of an outpatient clinic and a highly specialized laboratory. We provide genetic counseling to about 4,500 referred patients annually with both general genetic and oncogenic issues.

The department’s laboratory is DANAK-accredited and performs more than 4,500 analyses annually using both molecular genetic and cytogenetic methods. We use a wide range of analytical technologies, from classic karyotyping to advanced genome sequencing, including long-read WGS. The laboratory is characterized by ongoing technological and methodological development, where quality, automation and optimization of workflows are central focus areas.

Research and professional development are given high priority and are an integrated part of the department’s work. The department has a professor, two clinical lecturers and a postdoc, and there is close collaboration between the different professional groups around the development of new methods and diagnostic possibilities.

The department has a two-tier leadership with a chief physician and a chief bioanalyst and is characterized by high professionalism, joint influence and close cross-disciplinary collaboration. We place emphasis on a good working environment, where employees’ competencies are utilized, and where we collectively work to ensure the best possible diagnostics and counseling for our patients.
