About the job

Cardiac/Thoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit 4141 is seeking 2 nurses, with Danish authorization for a permanent position, starting January 1, 2027 or as agreed

Are you an ambitious nurse who wants to develop professionally while having fun? Then come to an interview with us in the pediatric group on 4141, Cardiac/Thoracic Surgical Intensive Care.

We are located in building 41 on the 4th floor, where we run a small pediatric intensive care unit with 5 beds within a larger adult ICU. In our ICU we treat children and adolescents with heart and lung diseases. We have a national function for children with congenital heart disease, where we receive about 150-200 surgical patients per year. We stabilize patients aged 0-18 after heart/lung surgery, but we also receive patients with acute illnesses.

If a child needs a heart-lung transplant, they will also come to stabilization with us. This means that length of stay ranges from very short recovery periods to days/weeks, and occasionally months. We are staffed according to 1.5 staff per child. The parents of hospitalized children are not admitted with the patients, but are a natural part of the care, and we place high value on family-centered care.

During your employment you can expect to expand your competences and professional skills through several relevant training programs. It is a expectation that you complete the intensive specialty training if you do not already have it.

A typical career path with us looks like this

  • Introduction to the specialty training in intensive care nursing, if you are not specialized
  • Specialty-specific training for newly hired nurses on cardiac ICU
  • Unit-specific advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and scenario training for acute conditions in children
  • 2, 4, 10 and 18 month case reviews and interviews
  • Two-year intensive specialty training, if not already held
  • Transplant certification
  • Certification for ECMO treatment
  • Congenital disease continuing education

The special thing about our unit is that we have weekly teaching sessions with our clinical nurse specialists. The clinical nurse specialists teach about problems in both children, adults and relatives. In our department we have a psychologist, which we use for mandatory group supervision, embedded in the normal working hours. The psychologist is also used as a supportive function for the staff when we have difficult patient courses.

We attach great importance to having influence over our own work schedule and have close cooperation with our scheduling planner. During your training you will be assigned two mentors typically for 2-3 months depending on your experience. During the training you will not be counted as part of the staffing norm.

We are a small staff group with nurses, SOSU assistants and currently a group of medical students. We collaborate very closely with the attached anesthesiologists, where we learn from and spar with each other. We are therefore a diverse group with ages from 25 to 65 years, several colleagues have 10-30 years of experience, while others have only a few years. This means that we complement each other across crossways, and that we have great flexibility.

Although we are focused and serious about our patients and their relatives, we also take time to talk and laugh with each other. A good workday can therefore be a day where you have time and space to perform your tasks and learn new things, but also where you have the opportunity to chat with colleagues.

Therefore we are seeking a colleague who has a few years of nursing experience, preferably with pediatric, cardiology or intensive care background, who is brave and eager to learn new things and develop. We want a colleague who thrives in a workplace where the day can have different speeds. You should therefore enjoy it when things go fast as well as having time to focus.

If this sounds like an exciting workplace for you, please send us your application. We also have the possibility to offer an accompanying escort. We look forward to hearing from you!
