About the job

Do you get energy from finding the fault, fixing it and ensuring that it does not happen again? Do you like to have an overview and know that the solutions colleagues depend on run stably every day? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you in a very special organization where the focus is on the patient and on delivering world-class health services.

We are looking for a operations manager for the robot team at AUH. You will have the overall analytical responsibility that our software robots run stably. You will become the professional focal point for the operations effort, monitor the solutions and lead when complex faults need to be investigated and resolved. At the same time you drive a proactive and systematic approach to maintenance, and set the framework for how we future-proof the solutions as the hospital systems change.

The robot team has been building software robots since 2017. Many of our robots support workflows that the hospital depends on every day. The more solutions we have in operation, the more important it becomes that someone has the overall responsibility for making sure they work – and that will be you.

Stable operation of robots the hospital depends on

As operations manager you are the team's first line of defense when a robot fails. You monitor operations in UiPath Orchestrator and our other tools, analyze logs and find the cause – whether it is a changed screen in a business system, data that does not look as expected, or an error in the robot itself. You fix the fault, test the fix and ensure the solution comes back into stable operation.

You also work proactively. You monitor upcoming updates to the systems the robots operate in, maintain and optimize existing solutions and identify robots that should be rebuilt or phased out. You are in dialogue with process owners and users when there are operational disruptions, and you ensure they know what is happening and when the solution will run again.

The role is not only about keeping the robots running today. You will have a central role in further developing our operations. You know the operations best, and therefore you help shape how we operate our robots in the long term. This includes procedures, monitoring and alerting, and how new solutions are handed over from development to operations. You look at what works today and what is needed when the number of robots in operation grows. You come up with improvement proposals and help implement them together with the team lead and the rest of the team.

When a robot goes into operation, you take over responsibility from the developers. You do not stand alone. The developers remain your sparring partners and help with maintenance in a fixed rotation and as needed. It is you who plan how that collaboration works in practice.

You will become part of a team that works closely together and spar with each other daily. You work closely with the developers so that experiences from operations are used when new robots are designed and built.

Primary tasks may include

  • the daily operation of the team's robot solutions and contribution to further development of the team's operating model
  • further development and long-term planning of the team's operating model, including processes for handover from development to operations
  • strategic and architectural responsibility for the ongoing adoption of new technologies in operations, including AI-supported fault finding and integration of Python
  • daily monitoring of robot operation and handling faults and disruptions
  • troubleshooting, root cause analysis and fixing existing robot solutions
  • maintenance, testing and adjustment of robots when there are changes in business systems and workflows
  • optimizing existing solutions with a focus on stability and robustness
  • communication with process owners and users during operational disruptions
  • documentation of solutions, faults and fixes so knowledge is shared in the team
  • sparring with the developers on how new solutions are built to run stably
  • contributing to further development of the team's working practices and tools as well as the region's operating model.

The robot team, like the automation area in Region Midtjylland, is undergoing great development. You will therefore have a strong influence on how we work with operations and maintenance going forward – both at the hospital and in regional contexts.

Your profile

It is a significant advantage if you have experience with UiPath and operation of IT solutions.

We are looking for a profile who thrives with responsibility for operations and takes pride in things working. You are systematic in your fault finding and do not give up until you have found the cause and not just the symptom. You stay calm when several things fail at once, and you have the professional experience that allows you to prioritise efforts based on a solid understanding of what is most critical for the hospital.

You have solid IT-technical understanding and the necessary understanding of programming logic so you can understand solutions others have built and fix them so they remain operationally stable.

You are not only good at solving the individual fault. You can also see operations as a whole and want to shape it. You can think in processes and structure, you like to improve the way we work, and you can take initiative without waiting for others to do it.

We expect you have

  • documented experience with UiPath Studio and Orchestrator
  • concrete experience with operation, support or maintenance of IT solutions, preferably with knowledge of ITIL or similar
  • deep knowledge of programming, e.g. Python, C# or VB.NET
  • experience with SQL and databases
  • good understanding of business systems, user interfaces and APIs
  • concrete experience with troubleshooting, log analysis and testing
  • a relevant master’s degree e.g. cand.it. or cand.scient. combined with strong analytical and IT-technical experience
  • good understanding that we work across many disciplines at the hospital – health, administrative, technical, etc.
  • good communication skills, also to users without a technical background.

As a person you are structured, responsible and thorough. You are approachable and good at engaging in various collaborative relationships. You document your work so colleagues can build on it, and you are curious to learn new things and develop professionally.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Your new workplace

The robot team is part of Data, Automation and AI in Health IT at Aarhus University Hospital. Data, Automation and AI consists of the Data Unit, which works with business intelligence, and Automation, which works with RPA solutions. We also have a newly started AI unit. The day-to-day work is performed in close collaboration with the two other teams. Across the three teams we have an increasing focus on artificial intelligence. We support the entire hospital – from the individual health professional to the political level.

The robot team was established at the end of 2017 and has over 350 completed automation projects in its portfolio. The team has, as first movers in the field, played a leading role in building Region Midtjylland’s RPA operating model. The ambition is that the team continues in this role and, together with our colleagues in the other hospital units and the Region’s IT department, sets the direction for the area.

In day-to-day work the team supports hospital units in Aarhus, Horsens and Randers with robot solutions for about 15,000 employees. The tasks range from the clinical to the very administrative – and from solutions that directly support clinical staff to fully automated batch runs.
