About the job

Do you want to help develop, plan and execute sharp offensive cyber operations for the benefit of the Armed Forces and Denmark's security? Are you also passionate about further developing your leadership skills? Then we are currently seeking a section chief with an operational mindset for a section in the Department of Military Cyber Operations.

You will be challenged and have room to develop

In the Department of Military Cyber Operations we deliver offensive cyber operations for the benefit of the Armed Forces and Denmark's security. Our goal is to counter threats to Danish security by influencing, counteracting or hindering an opponent's ability to operate in or through cyberspace. It is a field that is constantly evolving and growing, where we have the opportunity to set the direction ourselves. Based on strong expertise, drive and initiative, we focus on achieving operational results using FE’s special competencies and capabilities.

The section consists of employees with diverse competencies and educational backgrounds, including both specialists and generalists, which places demands on your leadership range.

As section chief you will be responsible for ensuring that the section delivers operational results. At the same time you will be responsible for personnel management and development.

You will also serve as the department head's close sparring partner and occasional deputy in daily operations.

Your tasks will primarily include

  • Lead a solid and professionally grounded operational planning process
  • Direct the deployment of FE’s resources and capabilities taking into account the operative possibilities and challenges
  • Quality assure written products
  • Develop the section's capacity and task solving
  • Plan competency development for the section's employees
  • Be part of a well-functioning management group
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with both internal and external actors
  • Contribute to outward-facing activities such as capability-related advisory
  • In addition, your tasks will include travel on missions abroad for short durations

You and your background are important

You have experience from previous positions as a manager or team leader and have insight into or understanding of operations planning and processes related to handling sensitive cases.

With a strong professional foundation and a structured approach you drive processes and initiatives that translate customer needs into concrete operational solutions, where FE’s special competencies and capabilities are brought into play most effectively. You have a particularly strong focus on collaboration and trust, and you are aware of how the section's work fits into a context that creates value for FE, the Armed Forces and Denmark's security.

You have an interest in and are able to understand complicated technical problems and communicate technical matters to a broad audience. It is an advantage if you have worked with or have knowledge of various intelligence disciplines and are familiar with FE’s business model.

You will have a broad network across FE, and it is important that you, as a person, can build and maintain important relationships.

The section comprises skilled and specialized employees with strong professional knowledge. Your leadership style must be appreciated by your employees, and as a leader you are able to set a direction and establish a well-functioning collaboration with a high degree of employee engagement.

You are persistent, proactive, take responsibility and are able to think creatively. And you possess an operational mindset and are driven by achieving results through the ability to execute. It is also important that you manage your priorities, as there are often many balls in the air. Being able to collaborate smoothly across the organization in all directions is, of course, a given.

The department is characterized by an informal tone, and we expect you to contribute with good humor and a positive attitude, thereby helping FE be a good place to work.

Your new workplace

The Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE) is Denmark’s foreign intelligence service and works – secretly and openly – to protect Denmark and Danish interests in a changing world.

We are not alone in protecting Denmark, but we are the only authority that has been mandated to use highly specialized means to uncover what other states and foreign actors are trying to keep secret. It makes sense for us to contribute to peace, safety and security for Danes, both in the analogue and digital world, and we do this by uncovering, assessing, advising on and countering both current threats and threats in development.

We value the strength of our diversity with deep professional knowledge and specialists, and we are a very special and operationally oriented knowledge organization with many different tasks, but common to them all is the knowledge base that our intelligence work creates.
