About the job

A one-year introductory position (no. 1309140-60-i-01) in clinical biochemistry with a research component is available for occupancy from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter at the Clinical Biochemical Department, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, the work site is Bispebjerg Hospital. The position is ward-free with occasional telephone on-call during daytime on weekdays (hours: 8:00-15:15).

The position can be applied for by junior doctors who have completed the clinical basic medical training for doctors (KBU).

The introductory position includes

  • Research and development

Research and biomedical development are an integrated part of the specialty training in clinical biochemistry. You should therefore be interested in receiving an introduction to a research-based specialty training, participating in research and having scientific initiative. During the employment you will have the opportunity, under expert supervision, to design and carry out a defined research project.

There are two professors employed in the department, and the department’s main research areas are basic and clinical neurochemistry, circadian rhythm research as well as mass spectrometry-based proteome analyses for pathophysiological and diagnostic use within a number of disease groups. You can read more about the department’s research here https://www.bispebjerghospital.dk/afdelinger-og-klinikker/klinisk-biokemisk-afdeling/forskning/sider/default.aspx

  • Advice and teaching

During the employment you will be introduced to the clinical biochemical specialty and gain specialist knowledge about biochemical analyses and their clinical usefulness. Clinical biochemistry plays a key role in almost all specialties, and you will provide advice on rational ordering of biochemical analyses, interpretation of results and selection of specialized analyses. You will join the department’s on-call rota, which covers daytime on weekdays (hours: 8-15:15). You will also be required to participate in teaching of doctors, biomedical laboratory scientists and other professional groups in the department.

  • Operational, quality assurance and development tasks

You will be introduced to the department’s daily operating and development tasks and during the employment you will be attached to different analysis sections. In collaboration with the responsible consultant and the chief biomedical scientist you will undertake tasks for the analysis section, e.g. evidence-based expansion of the repertoire of analyses, more efficient patient pathways or analysis-related quality assurance tasks.

  • Influence, collaboration and immersion

You will have influence on the planning of your own work. We emphasize independence and engagement in solving tasks, but also the ability to collaborate across disciplines, as many tasks are solved in collaborative teams. There will usually be time for immersion so that tasks can be solved on a professionally supported basis.

An introductory position in clinical biochemistry at Bispebjerg Hospital is thus for you who want a positive, professionally strong, flexible and dynamic work environment with the opportunity to strengthen and further develop the above competencies and collaborate across specialties and professional groups.

Specialist medical training in clinical biochemistry

The specialist training in clinical biochemistry lasts 5 years and consists of an introductory position (12 months) and a main training position (48 months).

You can read about the specialty of clinical biochemistry on the Danish Society for Clinical Biochemistry's website ( www.dskb.dk ) and about the training to become a specialist in clinical biochemistry in the “Goals description for the specialist training in Clinical Biochemistry” under the section “Education” on the website.
