About the job
Are you an ambitious, relationship‑oriented leader who can deliver results through others, strengthen cross‑department collaboration and develop patient pathways with a high level of professional quality? And are you eager to contribute to setting the direction for the future of Heart Diseases? Then it might be you we are looking for!
About the position
As Chief Nursing Officer you will, together with the chief physician, be part of the department management, where you work closely and trustingly together – both with each other and with the head of nursing, the health administrative leader and the Chief Medical Officer. You report to the hospital’s executive leadership and assume overall responsibility for the nursing professional quality in the department. The department management has a joint responsibility for operations and development and is, together, the central driving force for the department’s strategic direction.
You will focus on exercising clear leadership, where you set a clear direction, formulate expectations and follow up so that leaders and staff know what they can expect. You are a present and visible leader who is available in daily work and prioritises leadership and the development of the department managers. You thereby create the best framework for leaders and staff to succeed together and to solve the core task with a high level of professional quality.
You are a natural role model for interdisciplinary and cross‑organisational collaboration. This means you actively work for good cooperation across departments, professional groups and sectors, and that you contribute to a culture where trust, respect and a shared direction are in focus. At the same time you have a strong strategic outlook and can translate the hospital’s strategy into concrete actions.
In your management of the department’s leaders you contribute to the development of professional environments – with particular focus on nursing and nursing professional development, the work environment and MED collaboration. You work with improvement management as an integrated part of your leadership practice and you dare to challenge the status quo.
Sygehus Sønderjylland stands alongside our partners in the midst of extensive development. With the Health Reform 2024 there is a strengthened organisation of the local health services, which both sets new requirements and opens new possibilities. You will play a central role in translating the reform’s intentions and Sygehus Sønderjylland’s Strategy 2030 into meaningful solutions for both patients and staff.
What we expect
As a person and leader we place emphasis on you showing integrity in both your decisions and your relationships. You are listening and inclusive and understand how to bring different perspectives into play when decisions must be made. You are action‑oriented and succeed through others by actively strengthening your fellow leaders and your leadership team.
We expect you to be curious and innovative and to have the courage to test new ways of organizing work when it can strengthen quality for patients and create a good working environment. You are a nurse with solid leadership experience from the health service and a relevant leadership qualification – and you have a fundamental understanding of organisation and complexity in a hospital. Most importantly, you are motivated to take responsibility for people, professionalism and development.
You thrive in a daily life where you balance safe operation with strategic development, and where you, through the leadership of leaders together with the chief physician, set a clear direction and create the framework for the organisation to succeed with its goals.
What we offer
You will become a central part of the leadership in a department with high professional standards and a strong collegial community. You will have close cooperation with the hospital’s executive leadership and the rest of the management team and a unique opportunity to shape the development of Sygehus Sønderjylland.
The position includes a strategic leadership role, where you, together with the rest of the management team, are responsible for both development and operation of the entire hospital. You will be part of an organisation in motion, where you have the opportunity to set direction, implement changes and see the effect in both patient pathways and workflows.
To ensure you get a good start, we will organise an individual induction and mentoring program that takes its starting point from your experiences and the department’s needs.
About the department
Cardiology is a specialised cardiology department that handles both acute and planned pathways for patients with heart disease. We have a 22‑bed inpatient ward, day hospital and outpatient clinics spread across several sites, with the main activity in Aabenraa. We cover the entire patient pathway from diagnosis and treatment to follow‑up and rehabilitation.
The department is characterised by a good working environment and high patient satisfaction. This is reflected in both the department’s patient experience measures and the latest MTU, which are among the top. We emphasise a culture where cooperation, respect and open dialogue are central values, and where there is targeted work on both professional quality and well‑being.
We are a larger cross‑functional staff group of about 110 employees consisting of nurses, social and health care assistants, doctors, secretaries and other professionals who work closely across departments and functions. Our organisation supports cohesive patient pathways so patients meet the right expertise, whether they are admitted or come ambulatory.
Interdisciplinary collaboration is a cornerstone of the department’s way of working. Structured teams with, among others, doctors, nurses/social and health care assistants, secretaries, physiotherapists, dietitians and a psychologist contribute to developing and quality‑assuring the cardiology treatment pathways and workflows. This provides both a high professional level and opportunities for deepening in particular areas of interest within the cardiology field.
Education and competence development are an integrated part of the department’s profile. We have ongoing students and trainees from several programs and work systematically with introduction, onboarding, supervision and further education. Both new and experienced staff are offered targeted competency development and are involved in development and improvement work.
As Chief Nursing Officer you step into a department with strong professional environments and well‑documented satisfaction among both patients and staff. There is potential for further development of both the framework, nursing, interdisciplinary collaboration and the cardiology patient pathways. At the same time you will take an important role in developing collaboration with municipalities in line with the health reform.
