About the job

Are you motivated by the social benefit of making research data open and accessible? Do you have experience developing modern digital solutions across both front- and back-end technologies? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where software development, data and user needs meet to support research and innovation in Denmark? Then you might be our upcoming IT developer.

We are seeking an IT developer for both operations and development of Danmarks Forskningsportal , which collects and presents data about the Danish research landscape. You will become part of a highly developing area where data, quality and new user-oriented solutions are at the core.

About the position

The position is placed in the Office Research, Technology and Culture with 28 employees, covering a range of societally relevant statistics, including research and innovation. Team NORA (National Open Research Analytics), of which you will be a part, is a product development team consisting of multiple disciplines.

The NORA team has, at the turn of the year, become part of Denmark Statistics, and we therefore also invest efforts in consolidating the research portal in collaboration with colleagues from other parts of Denmark Statistics. The initiative behind Danmarks Forskningsportal and NORA is funded by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science (UFS), with whom we have a close collaboration.

As a developer for the operation and development of Danmarks Forskningsportal you will play a central role in maintaining and further developing Danmarks Forskningsportal. We are primarily looking for a front-end oriented developer with an interest in visualization and platform operations, while experience with back-end is an advantage since the team works with agile methodology, where we complement each other in solving tasks. Your tasks will include:

  • Design, development and maintenance of applications, services and interfaces in the portal’s ecosystem
  • Development and maintenance of back-end services in Python and related technologies
  • Development of APIs and services that enable integration between systems and support future product development
  • Development of intuitive user interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue or similar
  • Design and implementation of user-facing applications such as data visualizations, dashboards and analysis tools
  • Support for user testing, monitoring and continuous improvements based on data and insights

Competencies

The work includes both maintenance and modernization of existing interfaces in the portal’s ecosystem, as well as participation in development projects that enhance the portal’s datasets, functionality, usability and analytical value for the research landscape. You should therefore be comfortable with a broad range of tasks covering front-end development, back-end services, APIs, data processing and infrastructure tasks as needed.

We are aware that no candidate will match all of the technologies and competencies below. Therefore we encourage you to apply even if your experience does not cover all areas, as long as you have a solid technical foundation, a desire to learn and motivation to work in a small, collaborative team.

The platform is expected to be fully integrated into Denmark Statistics’ overall system portfolio, and therefore we are seeking a developer who is curious about new systems, can navigate complex integrations and has experience with or interest in Python development.Ideally you have experience with:

  • Python development and API development using FastAPI or similar technologies
  • Modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular or equivalent
  • REST APIs and service-oriented architectures
  • HTML5, CSS3 and responsive web design
  • Databases (e.g., MongoDB and Neo4j), data modeling and data processing workflows
  • Data visualization technologies such as D3.js, Chart.js or similar
  • Search technologies such as Elasticsearch or equivalent
  • Git, CI/CD processes and collaborative software development
  • Accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization
  • Experience with secure software development, including handling security vulnerabilities throughout the development lifecycle
  • Agile development methods including code reviews and test cycles.

You will work closely with analysts and IT developers internally in the team and across the organization, Statistics Denmark, external national and global partners, and user representatives within the Danish research landscape. Strong collaboration skills and written and spoken communication are therefore a prerequisite.

Salary and employment

Salary and terms of employment are according to qualifications under the relevant collective agreement. Qualification allowances for the position may be negotiated.

The appointment will, as a rule, be made as a full-time employee (21.37 hours per week? — actually 37 hours) under the current agreement for academics between the Ministry of Finance and various academic organizations.

The appointment will be on a full-time basis / 37 hours and with starting on 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

It is a prerequisite for employment in this position that you can obtain security clearance and maintain it throughout your employment.
