About the job
Would you like to make a difference for veterans and their relatives and become part of a strong professional community? And would you contribute to our good working climate in an environment where we prioritize professional quality, time for our tasks – and opportunities for professional development and training programs?
So read on and send us your application.
Who are we
You will become part of the Veterans Centre's Military Psychology Department, which with its two sections; the Clinic and International Operations, works with preventive interventions targeted at soldiers in international operations and treatment of psychological after-effects.
The Veterans Centre's headquarters are in Ringsted, where the top management and staff and support functions have their offices. In the Military Psychology Department we are about 45 colleagues, of which about 30 psychologists and 4 physiotherapists, distributed at local veterans centres on barracks in Aalborg, Holstebro/Karup, Fredericia, Slagelse/Ringsted and Høvelte/Svanemøllen.
You will have your daily life at the local veteran centre in Aalborg (Aalborg Barracks). You will become part of a multidisciplinary strong and competent professional community, where everyone has solid knowledge and experience within the veteran field and works engaged and targeted to create better conditions for our soldiers, veterans and their relatives.
We place high value on our multidisciplinary collaboration, often the treatment is carried out in collaboration with the centre's social workers, employment counselors, outreach advisors and children’s advisers. We work further to strengthen the holistic multidisciplinary effort via multidisciplinary action plans and care coordination in multidisciplinary teams.
You will also have 3 psychologists and a physiotherapist who work with body therapy treatment as your new local colleagues in the Military Psychology Department. The team values the importance of their collaboration, meets for professional group meetings and continually uses each other for professional discussions, sparring and mutual support – just as there is room for a laugh and social camaraderie.
What the position offers
As a clinical psychologist in the Veterans Centre you will handle clinical psychological assessment and triage, treatment and treatment course coordination for our soldiers, veterans and their relatives – in both individual, couple and group formats. In addition you will be part of our national crisis response in the Royal Community.
You will naturally receive supervision and become part of a strong mono- and multidisciplinary community, where sparring is paramount. In addition you also participate in seminars and ongoing competence development together with the entire psychology group.
In this position you report to the clinical director, Ole Nielsen, who himself is a psychologist and who practices an informal leadership style, where there is a focus on present leadership and ongoing opportunities for contact and sparring. Ole says the following:
“I strive for a leadership practice that is both results-oriented with a focus on ensuring that the care pathways provide the highest possible value to our veterans and relatives – and at the same time also focuses on the important aspects of the leader-employee relationship in order to support task execution, well-being and development”.
We work in a research-based way, where we develop, test and continuously evaluate new methods within cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma therapy. You will thus have good opportunities to participate in research projects and other development work. We have recently implemented EMDR treatment in our department.
Currently we are, among other things, working on a larger RCT project, where the effect of a modular treatment program (PACE) for complex PTSD (developed in the Military Psychology Department) is tested against Prolonged Exposure. We work with strengthened substance misuse initiatives and coordination, and we are working towards testing: Stabilizing pretreatment, especially treatment program for Moral Injury and intensive day treatment.
As a clinical psychologist with us you will therefore have the opportunity to bring your professional skills into play while you develop and strengthen your competencies within psychotraumatology, psychotherapy and crisis psychology areas, as well as within clinical research. Furthermore, through your efforts, you will make a concrete difference and create value for veterans, soldiers and their relatives.
Your primary responsibilities and tasks include
- Assessment of veterans, soldiers and relatives
- Psychotherapeutic treatment individually and couples therapy
- Mindfulness group programs
- National crisis duty (covers the Royal Community)
- Interdisciplinary collaboration and care coordination for clients with other professionals in the Veterans Centre
- Participation in research projects and development work
Why choose us
In the Veterans Centre there is emphasis on high professionalism in task execution, and that decisions are made on an evidence-based basis. There is room to develop and make mistakes, and we support a culture where we help each other to improve, and where there is a high degree of trust and care for one another. You will experience having adequate time for your tasks, as we value quality in our work.
We have a good and informal working environment on the barracks, which constantly remind us that we work for a higher purpose with flexibility in everyday life, and where job satisfaction is high. Our latest employee survey confirmed our experience that we have a very good psychological work environment. Our teams are characterized by using each other for collegial sparring, and we do not compromise on professional quality and development and supervision.
Further education is a major part of your competence development, and we ensure that over time you develop your competencies within psychotraumatology, psychotherapy and crisis psychology.
It will include, among other things, training programs in EMDR, Prolonged Exposure (PE) and the Military Psychology Department's modular treatment program for complex PTSD (PACE).
You have room for a life outside your work, without having to give up competence development and relevant professional challenges. You will have access to the latest knowledge and research in the area, and you also contribute to new knowledge yourself.
We take care to ensure that you are well introduced to the tasks and the organization, and you will be given responsibility for the tasks as you are prepared for them.
There is possible flexibility in the workdays by arrangement. You should also expect 1-2 travel days for gatherings at seminars etc. about every third month.
Who are you
You are a trained cand.psych. You preferably have a couple of years of experience as a psychologist and preferably within clinical psychological practice. It is an advantage if you have experience from psychiatry with psychopathology and/or psychotraumatology or similar, but not a requirement. In addition, it is an advantage if you have completed the practice education / authorization education.
You want to work with veterans and their relatives in need of help. You thrive on being an active part of a development-oriented environment and have an interest in actively engaging in both mono- and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Employment terms
The employment is governed by the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).
Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of additional pay. There is an employer-funded pension scheme attached to the position.
This is a permanent full-time position with work place at Aalborg Barracks.
Start date January 1, 2027 or by agreement.
As an employee under the Ministry of Defence area you are subject to some special terms. You must be able to be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout your employment.
You, as an employee, are obliged to perform service outside the country, including at units in international operations in order to participate in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacemaking, humanitarian and other similar operations.
Special considerations in connection with the position
You should be aware that there are physical and functional health requirements attached to the position, and that there is a requirement that you be able to be deployed on international missions. This means that the employment is conditional on you passing a screening at the Personnel Command Selection. The screening consists of a physical test, a medical assessment and a mental resilience assessment.
The date of the screening will be communicated after the interviews and will have to be carried out and clarified before we initiate salary negotiations and employment. You can read about the physical requirements at forsvaret.dk
