Would you like to help create star moments and strong children's communities?

Børnehuset Mælkevejen is looking for an engaged pedagogical assistant for our baby room (vuggestue) for 33–37 hours per week, with start on January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible.

We have not yet found the right colleague and are therefore applying again. Do you want to make a difference for the youngest children, and do you thrive in a small kindergarten with closeness, high professionalism and strong communities? Then you might be the one we are looking for.

Mælkevejen is an integrated kindergarten. Although you will primarily be attached to the baby room, you should also be willing to collaborate across the house and work with children aged 0–6 years.

A small kindergarten in the middle of Roskilde Børnehuset Mælkevejen is a small and atmospheric day care in the Midtøst area in Roskilde Municipality. We are centrally located in Roskilde with the Cathedral, city parks, the harbor and the library as neighboring facilities. This gives us many opportunities to use the city, culture and nature actively in the children’s everyday life.

In Mælkevejen we have 14 babies in the baby room and 23 preschool children. The staff team consists of four pedagogues, five pedagogical assistants, one head cook, two inspiration staff and a pedagogical leader.

We are part of the Midtøst area, which consists of six day care facilities. Across the area, we work from the values of professionalism, curiosity and community.

Our core task is to put children’s well-being, learning, development and formation at the center. We work to create high-quality pedagogical environments with a particular focus on play and learning, so the children have good prerequisites to develop as whole and democratic people.

Strong communities for all children In Roskilde Municipality we have high ambitions for the municipality’s children. We want to be known for day care of high quality, where children thrive, develop and learn something new every day. Strong communities are the foundation of this work. We continuously develop pedagogical practice so that all children feel they belong. Both pedagogically and administratively, we focus on creating participation opportunities for all children. It is a joint task across Roskilde Municipality’s day care facilities.

Our professional basis is a resource-oriented view of the child. We recognize children’s differences and see them as a natural and valuable part of broad children's communities. We strive for a pedagogical practice where general and special educational perspectives are combined with the individual child and the current group of children.

Time for the core task There is preparation time in Roskilde Municipality’s day care facilities. The preparation time provides opportunities for professional immersion, reflection and collaboration and helps strengthen the quality of the pedagogical core task as well as support professional development and job satisfaction. The time is planned with a focus on continued closeness and good frameworks for the children.

A everyday life with closeness, community and curiosity At Mælkevejen we work with a non-bullying environment where the teddy bear is a natural part of the pedagogical everyday life and our activities. We focus on relationships, emotions and community across the child groups - we strengthen both the children's community and each individual child’s opportunity to participate.

In the baby room we also work with nature, outdoor life and science, which we call NUS. Based on the area's yearly cycle, we explore the world together with the children and make space for their curiosity, senses and joy of discovery.

We also have a very special weekly tradition: Glitter Friday. Here everyday life may shine a little extra.

A little about you You meet the children in a close, acknowledging and curious way – even when everyday life is fast – and you are passionate about supporting their well-being, development, learning and formation. You have an eye for each child’s resources and possibilities to participate in the community, and you can follow the children’s initiations and translate them into meaningful activities and shared experiences.

As a colleague you are a good role model who takes responsibility and contributes positively and constructively to collaboration with both colleagues and parents. You are eager to take the initiative for activities and projects that contribute to the house’s development, and you would like to reflect on and develop the pedagogical practice together with us. At the same time you can maintain an overview, work independently and think creatively when solutions need to be found.

It is an advantage if you have an interest in nature, outdoor life and science and are familiar with a bully-free environment, but this is not a requirement. The most important thing is that you want to learn, contribute and become an engaged part of our professional and social community.

With us you become part of a small and manageable kindergarten in the middle of Roskilde with professionally skilled and engaged colleagues as well as wonderful children and parents. You get good opportunities to influence the children’s everyday life and the house’s pedagogical activities.
