About the job

Do you want to work in intensive care nursing?

Would you like to be part of a strong professional community where we help each other, develop together and have time for the patient?

Then we would really like to meet you.

At Intensive Ward 1 (ITA 1) at Aalborg University Hospital you will have the opportunity to work with some of the most complex patient pathways in a specialty where professionalism, technological development and human presence go hand in hand.

But a good working life is about more than professionalism and a meaningful everyday life.

It is also about colleagues you look forward to collaborating with, management you can approach, and a workplace with a focus on development and flexibility.

You will have the opportunity to develop professionally

Intensive care nursing is an exciting and specialized field where you have the opportunity to deepen yourself in complex patient pathways and develop your clinical competencies. We work with 1:1 staffing, so you have time to be close to the patient and their relatives in often acute and serious situations. You will have the opportunity to follow the patient pathways closely and use both your clinical skills and relational competencies.

It is hard to describe a typical day, but if we were to attempt, a workday could look like this:

Your workday begins with receiving a handover from the departing nurse about the patient you will be responsible for.

As a nurse you are responsible for the patient's complete care and treatment. This includes, among other things, medication administration, personal care, ward rounds, mobilization and ongoing clinical observations and assessments.

You work closely with the department's multidisciplinary colleagues, including doctors, therapists and orderlies. You work from a prep room with a colleague who is responsible for the neighboring patient. This means that you always have a colleague nearby for professional sparring and help in daily life.

During the day you perform the prescribed treatments and measures based on the patient's current needs. There may also be conversations with relatives, which are an important part of the patient's pathway.

The day ends with documentation and handover to the next person coming on shift, ensuring continuity of the patient's care.

No day is exactly the same. The workday is adapted to the patient's condition and needs, and there may, among other things, be examinations, scans or teaching. Even though you are responsible for your own patient, you are never alone – there is always an opportunity for help and relief from a colleague.

We receive patients from, among others, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, urology and general medicine.

With us you will get

  • A varied daily life with complex patient pathways.
  • Opportunity to develop your competencies in intensive care nursing.
  • A professional environment with skilled and experienced colleagues.
  • Opportunity for continued further education and professional development.

You become part of a community where we look after each other

Your upcoming colleagues consist of both younger and experienced nurses who are proud of their professionalism and happy with their colleagues. We believe that we become more skilled together. Therefore we share our knowledge, help each other and use each other's diverse experiences. With us you should be able to ask questions, come up with ideas and be yourself. We place emphasis on psychological safety, humor and a working environment where there is room to learn.

You don't have to know everything from day one. We ensure that you are well introduced and have colleagues around you who are happy to help you on your way.

You meet management that is close to everyday life

We believe that good leadership is about creating frameworks where employees can succeed with their tasks and develop. Our Chief Nursing Officer Sofie Bæk Borup prioritizes dialogue, trust and a psychologically safe work environment. She herself articulates these words about her leadership:

"I want to be a presence-based leader who is close to the clinical everyday life and to the people who are part of it. For me, good leadership is about creating frameworks where high professionalism, well-being and personal development go hand in hand – and where the individual can grow as part of the community."

We invest in your training

We know that it takes both time and support to become familiar with intensive care nursing. Therefore you will receive a structured introduction and training program based on your experiences and competencies. We prioritize, among other things, that you get:

  • Dedicated contact nurses.
  • Individually tailored training.
  • Simulation training.
  • Education aimed at intensive treatment.
  • Professional sparring with experienced colleagues.

We expect that you will, in time, want to complete the specialization in intensive care nursing if you don't already have it. If you are already trained as an intensive care nurse, you will have the opportunity for continued professional development and further education.

A work life that needs to fit together

We know that employees have different needs and are at different stages of life. Therefore we are open to dialogue about your wishes for working life. The job is, as a rule, full-time, but there is the possibility of part-time after completed training. We would like to hear what is important to you and how we together can find good solutions.

Are you going to be our new colleague?

We are looking for you who

  • Is a trained nurse.
  • Wants to work with 1:1 intensive care nursing.
  • Thrives in a changing daily life where you cannot always be sure what your shift will look like.
  • Meets patients and relatives with care and presence. We have patients of all ages, including children and young people.
  • Can independently prioritize and assess, and at the same time work well in close team collaboration.
  • Will contribute with positive energy to the work community and is prepared to work on yourself.

You can be a newly qualified nurse, an experienced nurse from another specialty or already have the specialization in intensive care nursing. The most important is that you want to learn and be part of our community.

Come by and meet us

It can be difficult to choose a new workplace based on a job advertisement. Therefore we would very much like to invite you inside before you decide.

You can arrange a visit or a buddy visit, where you will have the opportunity to experience everyday life, meet your potential future colleagues and ask all the questions you have.
