About the job

Are you a nurse with high professional standards, a big heart for children and adolescents – and a desire for a job where no day is the same?

Then maybe you’re the one we’re looking for.

The Department of Children and Young People, Zealand University Hospital (SUH), Roskilde, is seeking engaged nurses for positions with employment on 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This includes a permanent position and a maternity (parental) leave cover.

With us you will be part of a strong professional community where care, development and collaboration go hand in hand.

A Meaningful Job

In the Department of Children and Young People you will meet patients aged 0-18 and their families in both acute and planned pathways. We mainly treat medical patients, but we also have a few surgical pathways.

We believe that the best nursing is created in close collaboration with the child, the young person and the family. Therefore we work purposefully with patient-centered nursing, high professional quality and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Your Day-to-Day with Us

A typical day for us starts with you arriving at 7:00 and in SP you read up on the patients you are assigned. By 8:30 we aim to have measured values on all patients and you have created an overview of the tasks related to your patients. Rounding with the doctors is at 8:50 and afterwards ward rounds from 9:00-16:00. In evening and night shifts there will be rounds as needed, but we have a very close multidisciplinary collaboration, so you are always close to a doctor and a colleague.

Shifts are

Day shift 7:00-15:00

Evening shift 15:00-23:00

Night shift 23:00-07:00

You will become part of a department that consists of

  • A 12-bed ward, including a small isolation ward.
  • A short-stay unit.
  • A pediatric intake with 24/7 function and six beds.

You start in the ward, where you receive a thorough onboarding program tailored to your experience. When you are ready, we will introduce you to work in the pediatric intake so you become comfortable working across the departments.

In addition, we have subspecialties in many medical diseases, and you will join 1-2 subspecialty teams when your onboarding period has ended.

We are a unified department with the Department of Children and Young People, SUH, Nykøbing F, and work across campuses in our subspecialty teams. Therefore it is a prerequisite that you have at least two workdays per year at the Nykøbing Falster campus, where we have joint team meetings.

With Us You Get

  • An exciting specialty with wide professional breadth and opportunities for development.
  • An engaged team where we help each other and value a good working environment.
  • A thorough introduction and onboarding that starts from your competences.
  • Significant influence on your duty roster.
  • A duty roster combining day, evening and night shifts, typically 7-8 evening/night shifts over four weeks. It is expected that you will join a rotation with either day and night shifts, or if you wish all three shift teams.
  • Weekend duty every third weekend in 8-hour shifts.

We imagine that you

  • Are a licensed nurse.
  • Have experience from pediatric nursing or at least one year’s experience in a medical specialty.
  • Are curious, engaged and take responsibility.
  • Work independently and maintain an overview – even when the pace is high.
  • Are a team player who contributes to good collaboration with both colleagues and families.

We are in development – do you want to join?

The coming year will bring several exciting development initiatives, including

  • Implementation of our new vision for nursing with a focus on person-centered practice development.
  • Strengthened research and quality development.
  • Further development of our specialty area teams with a focus on even better patient pathways.
  • Relocation to Køge in January 2028

We are therefore looking for a colleague who wants to develop themselves and help develop the department.

We work with health equity and consistent care for all our patients, and it is a great plus if you occasionally would like to help cover shifts in the Department of Children and Young People, SUH, Nykøbing F, and you can of course receive training for this.

Would you like to hear more?

You are very welcome to contact deputy head Charlotte Nimand or chief nurse Michelle Nordvig Hansen at telephone 47 32 42 11.

You are also always welcome to drop by for a cup of coffee and a tour – we are happy to show you our department.
