About the Family Counseling/Special Counseling

Family Counseling is part of the Department Secretariat for Children and Youth, which handles tasks related to Skanderborg Municipality's children and young people between 0-18 years old and their families.

Public health nursing, PPR, school and day care areas are organized in the same department secretariat.

Family Counseling consists of the Social Counseling and the Special Counseling, where we are about 50 child and youth counselors with tasks within the authority area.

We work with close inclusion and cross-department collaboration both within our general area and within our internal execution area. This means that you, together with dedicated colleagues, work methodically based on Signs of Safety – both internally in the Family Counseling and as a dialogue model with the actors around the child in Skanderborg Municipality.

The primary target group in Special Counseling is children and youths with a significant and lasting reduced physical or mental function or intrusive chronic or long-term illness.

We work broadly with preventive measures, compensatory services and placements according to the provisions of the Children’s Act (Barnets Lov).

Our mindset

For us, the work starts with the child, the young person and the family. We believe that the best and most durable solutions are created through inclusion, close contact and a trust-based collaboration, where the family's own goals, hopes and dreams are given a central place.

As an advisor you are not only an authority figure. You are also a facilitator and catalyst for positive changes. This means that you are curious about the family's own resources and possibilities and actively involve networks, professionals and civil society in the work.

We prioritize accessibility and continuity in the collaboration, and we dare to think creatively and flexibly within the framework of the law. At the same time there is room for professional depth and nerding, both theoretically and methodically.

Responsibilities in the position

  • Close collaboration with parents and children/youths
  • Involvement of children and youths in the form of conversations, observations, etc.
  • Processing applications for disability compensatory services as compensation for loss of earning opportunity per the Children’s Act § 86, compensation benefit per § 87 and substitution/relief per § 90 and follow-up thereon
  • Preparation of screenings per Children’s Act § 18 and assessments per § 19
  • Initiation of interventions per § 32 and follow-up thereon
  • Handling cases involving violence and abuse to a limited extent
  • Participation in cross-disciplinary collaboration both within the municipality and with external partners

We offer

  • An exceptionally stable department with a positive and unique working environment, where there is room for laughter and where you are welcomed as a new colleague
  • Engaging and competent colleagues with vast experience and high professionalism
  • A busy and exciting work environment with variation in tasks
  • An environment with focus on development, innovation and professional nerding
  • Supervision and opportunities for courses and education
  • Work in a smaller municipality where you gain greater familiarity with the organization and what happens in the municipality
  • A workplace with close collaborative relations across the authority and the executors

Your competence and personal profile

  • You are trained social worker with experience from the authority area for children and youths and have knowledge of ICS, DUBU and Signs of Safety
  • You are thorough and structured, have a good overview and are motivated by nerding and delving into the compensatory areas of legislation, policy notices and professional nuances
  • You see families and networks as active co-players and manage to bring relevant professionals and partners into play
  • You are skilled at creating trustful relationships and good contact with children, youths and their families
  • You engage children, youths and families in an inclusive and respectful and curious manner
  • You thrive in a fast-paced daily life and can simultaneously work independently, prioritize and maintain an overview
  • You value high professionalism and good administrative practice
